I had a 1999 Cummins Dodge that I had made many upgrades to in order to get the power I wanted, but got tired of worrying about the block 53 and traded for a new 2006 megacab. This new truck feels like it has the power I want, but am thinking I want to open up the exhaust and air intake.

The service manager told me it had a resonnator, not a CAT, which is it?

Can I get rid of it? If it is a CAT, the pipe coming from the downpipe and this thing are all one piece! Strange looking thing thats for sure.

I plan to put on a nelson 86131M muffler, Comments? I am not sure which fleetguard or NAPA BHAF part numbers fit these 2006 trucks. I saw some mentioned in some post, but wasn't sure if they had a special setup or just removed the stock box and clamped the BHAF on like I did my old one.

Would appreciate any help and or comments on what you have experieinced with your exhaust and air system on other similar setups. Thanks.

It's a cat, if you remove it you will break Federal law and void your warranty. Can't understand how the service manager thinks it's a resonator. It does flow pretty good , just put on a better muff. Air system someone else will chime in, or use the search feature ,lots of reading.

Thanks. Looking at the location of the airbox on the 2006, I am not sure it is a good spot for a BHAF because of water when driving in the rain. Any Ideas anyone?

as far as the resonator or cat is concerned no one really knows, I have gotten many answers on that one but you don't want to here what it sounds like with out the right muffler on it unless you put twins on. jason from dieselnut motosports has an 06 and had the magna flow 5 inch dual and that damn thing resonated beyond belief but then he put a set of twins on and know it cleaned it up nicely.

Ok !! here's a nice way to make a bhaf go to a local junk yard for big trucks get yourself a 6'' elbow like ine the pic some 6'' pipe and the filter is from ford or a top kick I dont have the part number off hand but the 6'' pipe fits in to it real tight filter was like 27. 00$ and get a water proof cover from outerwears the filter is 10 x 13 thats big I think! all the parts are from the air intake of a big truck . . and in hooks right into your stock elbow on the turbo

Both. The Mega Cab has a CAT and a resonator. The resonator is just behind the muffler before it turns out to the tail pipe.

Fozzy is right the Megacabs have both a resonator and cat. The cat is up front attatched to the down tube and the resonator is behind the muffler.

Thanks for the replies. AngerManagent - WOW that BHAF looks great. I will have to do some looking around!

Anything to gain by removing the resonator? Is it restricitive? I am thinking about a Nelson muffler and no Resonator. Will leave the CAT intact. How will that sound?

thanks... my truck is loud , you can hear the turbo a mile away ! Oo. strait 5'' out the back for now, this sat. 6'' stacks are going on have a good cheap way for that too!!! :-laf as for any gain I would think so cant really tell stock trans. so cant even play around I am afraid i'll break it so I drive it like it is sunday !! :{

I have a BHAF on my 2004. If you put an Outerwears over the filter it will stay dry even in a downpour. I live in Washington so I have had plenty of oppertunities to test this :-laf :-laf
