Hey every one FYI, Dodge has started a recall on some of the 6. 7L trucks that have recently been shipped from the factory. There is a batch of trucks that have been shipped with "contaminated crank shafts". What they are planning to do is to do a complete motor replacement then ship the trucks to auction to be sold as used. This is what I have been told by my local dealer.

He also told me that most of the trucks that are already delivered to customer should be OK but like all recalls it is on a case by case basis. So anyone that has just received their trucks may want to ask there local dealer or in any case your dealer should contact you if your truck is one of the problem trucks.

I find it hard to believe that Chrysler would replace an entire truck when the most it would need is an engine. What is the most an engine replacement would cost maybe 15k? I really have no idea.

I seriously doubt that they would take that much of a loss. I think someone is blowing smoke somewhere along the line. I guess only time will tell. I got my truck a week ago so I am a prime candidate if this is true. Did they happen to mention if it was the pickups or cab and chassis models that are effected? How can they determine if the crank shaft is defective without tearing down the engine and doing some type of metallurgy inspection? The more I think about it the more I think this rumor is false. Please don't take any offense this is just my opinion.

IIRC, there were some 6. 0L 'Strokers that had one main journal that hadn't been polished. Wiping out the bearings on that hole. Something like 17k engines, or so I thought I heard. Engines were replaced.

You have to realize, there have been guys on THIS board who insisted on a completely new truck, when all that failed on theirs was a head or transmission... ;)

May not be many owners happy at needing a total engine transplant, with all the underhood disruption involved, before they've even had their first wash job... :-laf :-laf

Well if this is true #@$%! it isn't good news as I am flying to pick up my truck tomorrow morning in Spokane... it was built around the 11th or 12th of April. I am pretty sure the dealer would have contacted me by now if this was the case and let me know before I made the 500 mile trip.

well is there anyone out there with some inside info on this??? if it is for real then it would be nice to know what is wrong with the cranks and what trucks are affected. my dealer is full of dumasses! so i wont ask them. does anyone who is buying a truck from adam want to find out from him or get him to post on this. he would seem to be the one to either know or find out about it.

This sounds like something that a Chevy owner on rv.net would post. For now, I'm calling it BS, no offence to the original poster.

I do believe it's BS. These engines have been tested and proven. Why would they all of a sudden have, "Contaminated Crank Shafts"? It sounds like Powerjokers trying to get even for the 6. 4 fiasco.

I got an email response from my head tech who works for a Dodge dealership and from my salesman here they are

this is from my tech.

i can't find that recall or rapid response anywhere in chryslers dealer connect i ran your vin it is clean yes they would do something like that we had a truck that had to be painted and sent back to be sold at auction and we had chargers with a crank shaft recall that had to be inspected then sent back

This one is from my salesman

Nobody here has heard anything like that. I checked the daily news on our dealer web site and there isn't any mention of it. Also I had service run your vin# and it say no recall information availible. If they knew there was a problem and they were planning to recall trucks, I can't see them waiting or holding off on calling the trucks back. I'm not sure where this guys dealer would have gotten this info. Everything indicates that there aren't any recall issues with your truck. Have you been able to figure out the issues that you had witht he DVD player? I'm glad that manual got to you.

I realize that this sound like a load of crap and I understand that maybe many dealers have not heard of it yet. I heard it from my dealer in CA Westoaks Dodge. My salesman was the Fleet manager Nathan. Also talked to Sam Abergail who the service supervisor. I get the impression from my contacts that there is no bulletin yet but may have heard it from the reagonal dealer rep.

I don't want it to be anymore true than any of you as I just got my truck 4 weeks ago.

My understanding is that even though the motors are not that expensive to replace. Then the truck would no be considered to be "NEW".

Dodge, has sent my dealer a new EGR tube and the gaskets for my 6. 7 for whatever reason. The dealer I bought the truck from that they sent this stuff to is never going to do anything under the hood of my truck again with, so I am currently trying to get the stuff Dodge sent them for my cummins...

I was told this was a TSB for the 6. 7

I will talk to the dealer that I am having take care of any work to be done on my truck from now on and see if he knows anything of this. I do know that the tech at this dealer just got back from school on the 6. 7 and I would think he would be up on the rumors or otherwise...

Sounds completely plausible. Sometimes it'll take a few days to get the message out to dealers. And if the dealer isn't scheduled to receive any of the defective trucks they may not hear anything.

The wording "contaminated crank shaft" is pretty confusing, hard to imagine what that means. But it isn't hard to imagine a batch of bad parts leaving Cummins and then being discovered later... happens all the time.

I can assure you this happens with ALL mass produced cars on the market at one time or another. Some are caught before the parts are shipped from the supplier, some caught before the cars have shipped the plant, and some aren't caught until after that.

Reminds me of when the Jeep Liberties came out and Chrysler had to rent a huge warehouse to store all of them in while they swapped the defective engines for new ones. It was 30,000+ vehicles I believe.

It is legit, don't be so quick to shoot the messenger. There is a rapid response, the language does include crank contamination and engine replacement. The trucks will be sold at auction only after engine replacement.

do you have a rapid response ID# or something that I can have my dealer check into? they claim there is no rapid response in their system
