Hey all,

I am just shy of 200K miles on the factory rotors and autozone heavy duty pads. When i bought the truck i installed Autozone pads soon as I got home that I had in the garage from my dads 08 that never got installed and were a perfect match.

Being that its time to replace the brakes and wondering if anyone is running the Z36 powerstop pads and rotor kit on there truck or a truck in the past?

I am just looking for options at this time. I might just go to Autozone and get the duralast rotors and replace the pads under the warranty that they have so i really only have to pay for rotors.

NOT cheap but I can tell you EBC Orange HD towing pads will stop better than anything you have ever used. Also they offer US Made rotors.

Went to 3rd gen setup on my 2nd gen.

Also installed just fronts on current 15 DRW and turned rotors, WOW.

Braking is iNSANE!!!

Checked them out and holy crap are they pricey just for the pads. I was looking around and gonna run 600-700 just to do either front or rear with rotors and pads!!!!!

If i spend that much i dont want to have to change them again in 10 years.

I called autozone to see the price on the pads that i put on my truck new and they were only 40$ per set and in conjunction with the factory rotors and the duralast semi metallic pads i got 197K miles out of them. 139K with the truck having an exhaust brake but still. getting 60K more with the brakes doing all the work isnt bad!!!!

Might just install all duralast gold stuff from autozone at 569$ for the full truck.

They're great. I've got them up front and still appreciate their low dust, silent operation, and just plain stopping power. My buddy switched from EBC's to them.
I got mine from Summit. It seemed reasonable. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/pwr-k2203-36/year/2007/make/dodge/model/ram-2500

Did you go plain rotors or drilled and slotted?

I've been warned to stay away from the d/s rotors as they warp easier due to less material. At least on trucks anyways.

If you live in an environment that spreads salt or is even humid, I'd not run drilled and slotted rotors. I live in the rust belt so that may have more to do with it than anything but every set I've ever seen used on a daily driver the slots and holes rusted over solid.

Personally I'll go with OE when the time comes on my 14. At close to 110k miles my OE pads are still well over half thickness. Quiet with minimal brake dust. Some aftermarket pads have alot of metallic dust that ends up all over your wheels and paint. I made the mistake of going aftermarket on our White Chocolate colored Mercury one time. Spots started showing up all over the rear quarters and hatch that looked like rust spots. It ended up being from the pads. After dealing with that for close to a year I went back to OE. Not to say OE pads are the only ones that won't do this, just an fyi. Anymore I tend to stick with what I know works wether it be OE or aftermarket, and it is often hard to equal the quality of OE.

As I mentioned they are not cheap! Rotors are dimpled.

I have NEVER experienced such great braking.

I also went EBC Yellow on my 8k Kodiak dusk brakes. Simply AWESOME.

IMHO the three applications I have done are WELL worth the $$$.

Yeah I've used duralast gold on pretty much every vehicle I have owned and they have all outlasted the vehicle lol.

For the price I'm getting a full kit at i can't complain. Thank you all for the ideas and suggestions!!!!!

Maybe I'll look at ebc for the next truck

One thing I did not mention is I only did the fronts on the 15 DRW. They did not have the rears at Summit so in the Spring I will do them then. The improvement just doing the fronts is AMAZING.

The EBC ED pads do look great. They are a bit cheaper on Amazon than Summit.

Also of note, they are not orange stuff but rather just orange in color. Summit is the only place that calls them orange stuff, to includes the EBC website.

YES this is true! They are Orange HD towing pads, NOT OrangeStuff!

I know I sound like a broken record! They are AMAZING!!! Can't wait til I turn the back rotors and add them to the rear of the 15 DRW.

Sounds like a good deal. I decided to run duralast gold rotors and pads from Autozone. I paid 586 out the door. Might save some more if the fronts dont need done but the rears for sure need at least pads. Going to bust out the micrometer and check the thickness on everything before i start.

Might be good with just doing pads this round.

This thread reminds me of a set of galvanized pads I came across a year or so ago and forgot all about. Been wanting to give them a try on one of the vehicles but haven't had the need yet. I can't tell you the last set of pads I actually wore out. The backing plates end up corroding to the point of early signs of separation long before the linings wear out.

Those look good! The paint used on the EBC's looks like it should hold up. On my 01 I used the powder coated 3rd gen cradles and calipers from PowerStop, should last especially in the NW.

Those do look really nice!!!! When it comes time to replace the calipers then ill consider going with aftermarket on those but haven't had a truck yet that Ive needed to do that with.

They guy I bought my 01 from with 123k had good ol LesSchwab do the brakes about 20k or so earlier and of course they slapped on POS calipers when the OE were most likely fine. So I started fresh with front and rear all new components. One of the POS calipers had frozen that's what got me started doing this 3rd gen total upgrade.
