New Truck & a Question

Just picked up our new Laramie Longhorn Megacab on 7/11/11 and had our first road trip, abt 1100 miles. This truck is light years ahead of any Ram I have had before and I have over a million miles behind CTDs! Don't get me wrong our 05 and 06 5. 9 were great trucks but this new rig has the most refinement of any Dodge we have ever driven. The new 68rfe is so smooth it takes careful attention to catch it shifting not to mention I have to keep reminding myself that it is a diesel, the A/C is incredible, leather seats very comfortable and sound system is awesome! What a Difference:D

OK couple of questions; Does anyone have a source for Square bed rails preferably chrome or maybe even black chrome.

Auto transmission guys, when using an auto off road I have found higher rpms are needed to keep the temp down, but with this 68rfe and the temp gauge I am not sure what to watch most. water or transmission temps. advise? sorry for long post

Towing, I set the EVIC to display the transmission temp because there is a engine temp gauge in the cluster.

Mine is not a HO, but I do love the Longhorn package. The cooled seats are nice here in Georgia in the heat.

Operating temps is a tough question.

The really safe temps are 200*F and below. I believe the warning for transmission overtemp doesn't come on until 275. I know you can go over 200 but the high temps are what make the seals get hard and brittle.

I have talked to some guys that have pulled long grades with temps at around 230*F and said they have experience no problems. Fluid still looked good, no burned smell and transmission worked fine. The 68 RFE is a good, strong transmission and is built to last.

I'm surprised the warning doesn't come on until 275. I wouldn't want to run one that hot.
