I think I might be having an issue with my Thermal Bypass Valve. I was riding in the truck on I-4 in Florida keeping up with the flow of traffic doing 80mph. Outside temp showed 91*F, I have the 4:10 tow package and we weren't towing or carrying anything and the trans temp was reading 190-192F.

I've always seen it around 176*F. I have 80k miles on her and are getting ready for a trip to Maine towing a 15k 5th wheel.

My question is my memory going bad and the 190-192*F is ok on flat land?

Also, the TBV looks like it can be replaced because all 4 hoses screw into it. But the part I need 52014523AA comes as a hose kit that includes the TBV.

Can I just removed the TBV off the new assembly and just install that? Your thoughts and experience would be appreciated.

Thanks Scott.

I have a ‘14 and just got back this past weekend pulling my TT which is just shy of 10k. It was around same outside temp and my temp stayed between 186-190. My normal temp non-towing is around 168.

I have also noticed that the thermostat can be taken apart. But they don't sell just those pieces. If it is sticking, will just taking it apart and cleaning do the trick? See photo.

First off, feel the temps of the lines when the transmission is hot. If it is bypassing the lines on the cooler side of the valve will be much cooler than the two on the transmission side.
If it is stuck, cleaning the valve should be an acceptable repair.

When I was in the truck the other day, I did feel what I thought was trans cooler lines. The lines I grabbed were down low on the driver side coming off the bottom of the radiator. They both were very hot to the touch. After going to Tech Authority site I was able to see the actual lines. The TBV is right next to the fuel filter. I will have to take the truck out again and feel the lines again.

It's a little hard for me to check and see things sometimes due to neck and back issues. Sucks getting old.

Thanks for the help and I will keep digging.
