Hi everyone, so after around 700 miles I was under my truck and noticed this

oil.jpg

Yeah some of it is pre assembly lube, but some of it was oil(or at least im pretty sure)

So I removed inspection plate to find

So I cleaned everything really well, put another 100 miles on and found this

Where do you guys think this is coming from and what do you think is the possible cause

The truck is a 2012 Ram 2500 6. 7 cummins

Big thanks in advance

think it is normal..... mine does it... i think it is from the crank case tube..... the drippings blow on there and make it look like it is leaking... . i wipe it down every oil change, but never actually leaks on the ground...

How would it leak from the crank case tube

Took it to the dealer yesterday and they are pointing at the rear main. They have to do a dye test before chrysler approves them to do any work. So I get to pick it back up today and drive around for two weeks. The mechanic said he's done quite a few of these so far and that its such a known issue from chrysler that there is a protocol for warrantying them

My 05 had the same thing, I would never have that fixed, the chances of more problems from pulling the transmission are possible, I would just drive it and enjoy

I get what your saying and I am enjoying the truck... . but after dishing out the cash I did for this truck I just dont find it acceptable to have a small leak. I just don't. I expect more from RAM and this is my fourth cummins and 6th diesel. I've been pretty loyal to chrysler and I just expect better from them... My major worry on getting this fixed is that I'll be keeping this truck a loooong time and I just dont want to have a larger leak issue once Im out of warranty and be stuck with the cost.

Your picture does not show a leak. If it becomes a leak at some point address it then

It has dripped... its very very very slow, but its there, Im at 1600 miles and it keeps accumulating, its not a steady pour but its there and coming from somewhere and I just disagree with the fact that a brand new truck should be weeping oil

You're right, Make them fix it, You didn't buy expecting it to leak right off, make them fix it and if they mess something else up doing it , Make them repair it too!

I guess you've never owned a new Harley?

I will second that.

I had a small seep in my 07 HD, from the clutch cable entering the case, and I got docked for the leak when I traded it in for my 2011 HD. If I had known that, I would have had it fixed under warranty. It was just a little seep and one drop every week sitting in the garage. :{

I don't know that I would rush to have it fixed with that small amount. My '92 Ram rear main seeped the entire time I owned it. I had it fixed once under warranty and it went back to seeping about six months after it was fixed. My '99 developed a seep at just after 100k and it is still just seeping at 270k. My current daily driver '05 still isn't seeping at 250k+. I would probably have it fixed before it is out of warranty, but I wouldn't rush it.
