Can someone explain what the difference is between the three automatic transmissions in the 2013 3500 trucks. I see some post that that say this one or that one is great, but what is the difference and what makes one better than the other.

66 series, gasser engines

68RFE, Chrysler built, improved and adequate, hop ups and strengthening stuff being developed aftermarket

Aisin 69, doesn't break, about 150 lb. heavier than the above, bigger shafts, etc.

Kind of like getting a duramax vs. Cummins. The former is perhaps adequate, the latter is "way too good for a mere pickup truck. " It is well matched with the Aisin, and the HP rating is bumped because the Aisiin is so strong.

Am I correct in thinking that you can only get the Aisin in the C&C models and the 68RFE is in the Pickup models on the 4th gens?

The 2013 68 RFE has a shifting flare that drives me nuts. (My 2012 68RFE never did any of this )It flares up about 2-400 rpm between 4-5th, and to 6th gear on occasion. Supposedly there may be a "re-flash" down the road to address this issue. It apparently the shift pattern was changed from 2012 to help "smooth" out the rough shifts. If you have the ability, go with the AISIN... . Had I known about this flare, I would have not bought this model truck at all. JMHO. I'm stuck with this thing now. Not to mention, you get more HP and trq with the AISIN.

The aisin is good news to me. I am thinking a auto in my next one. I just can't get past all the problems with the DMF and the G56.

Ram needs to put a heavy duty version of the 8-speed ZF transmission behind the Cummins. The one in my new truck is AMAZING! 20mpg all the time, smooth as glass, and it pulls like a BULL!

2nd that! Very impressed with my 1/2 ton. Can't wait till next year when we can get a diesel with that 8 speed!

RCHAWES, I was so sure about the truck, I bought from a broker.(never test drove it as I had a 2012) As he was driving away with my 2012, I drove the 2013 and discovered the "FLARE"!!!

Maybe soon a fella sitting at a desk some where will slip a fix into a reflash for something else and we will be happy..:)

No such unit exists and Ram is not about to try to devlop one from scratch. In the long run you end up with derated power and less of a truck with a manual anyway.

The AISIN is good enough stock that even though ti si TQ managed the final numbers look good. The 68RFE is lagging in the stength department and probably always will, cheaper option.

Bug Out, I had an update on Friday.... Seems to have made a significant difference with the "Flare" its not perfect it is still an awkward/mushy shift but it certainly is less annoying. Have not driven it much since update but it seems to be better in my opinion.
