I currently have an 06 RAM 5.9 Cummins and I have been starting to think about getting a new truck. I use my 06 for a daily driver 16 miles(non-highway) one way to work each day with occasional highway driving. On the weekends I am typically towing something or taking 300 mile trips to my property in Wisconsin.

Are the newer gen trucks with DEF and the regen going to cause problems with the short trips to work?

I drive my 2011 Ram 3500 to the office during the workweek. 12 mile round trip during the workweek.

Usually towing or hauling the camper out of town 2 or 3 weekends a month. Short commute has been a non issue. I'm at 92K miles in 4 and 1/2 years. So a lot of towing and hauling miles to play on the weekends.

No worries for me.

Had a 06 2500 4x4 with 373 gearing. Now a 2015 2500 with 342 gearing. The lugging an constant downshifting is over the top. Boy do I wish I had the 06 back!

I drive 12 miles round trip to/from work (except during the summer). I have the g56 so I don't have constant downshifting and lugging. 15,700 miles of which 4550 is hwy towing and approx 4500 is unloaded hwy. Have had a few Check Engine Lights. They are still working out the kinks on the DPF and NOx/DEF IMHO.

I just got back from a 2000 miles trio towing a light trailer (5000 lbs). CEL is still on so I don't think th we CEL/regen/NOx problems are solely due to grocery getting and using as daily driver. Had the CEL turned off before this recent trip.

Love the truck. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Please tell me you are talking about towing or you have larger than stock tires. I live in a mountainous area and am still giddy that when unloaded, it NEVER shifts out of overdrive on steep grades. It was a weird feeling at first coming from a gas engine.

Went from 06 reg cab to 2015 crew (both 4x4) and love the new truck!

MPG on 2015 w/3.42 is better than 2006 w3.73.

Both daily drivers and factory rear air suspension on 15 gives the better ride.

I don't tow but if I did I would want to test drive the 3.42 vs 3.73 rear ratios before buying.

As for me the 3.42 works great.

My dealer said my mpg would drop w/15 but that's not what I'm finding.

I drove the 06 9 years and over 116k miles and averaged 18.2 mpg on an excel spreadsheet.

Currently I have 5400mi on the 2015 and am averaging over 18.9 mpg (excel spreadsheet)

Overall I average 31 mph so I must drive like a little old lady

I have noticed the mpg's being low because after driving 6 miles to work and 6 miles home. The fact that I am mostly running a cold engine that only reaches 190 ° F when I reach my destination, means my mpg's are fairly low. But they were also low with my precious vehicles as well. Because I'm always just warming up my engine when I get to work.
