I don't recall the post in particular you're referring to, but basically in the lower gears you don't require as much torque from the engine to do the same amount of work because of the torque multiplication of the lower gears. I'm sure that is what was meant.

Well HP = TQ x rpm and power is TQ over time if I recall. What it really seems they are doing is preventing rpm by controlling fueling

I have a 2018 with the 410's and have no problem with throttle lag while towing a load or empty. I turn on the tow haul mode and go. I do not mess with shifting gears and I turn on the exhaust break.

I recently purchased a 2018 3500 SRW w/ Aisin and traded my 2015 3500 SRW w/ Aisin. I'd have to say there's a difference. My 2015 had a slight lag, but the 2018 is definitely less.

Well, I hope I'm not part of the excessive lag club: Yesterday I pulled out onto a busy road with my new 2017 5500 and rolled into the throttle pretty heavy. First time ever had this kind of lag, but must have been about 3 seconds. It's raining today, so not good for testing throttle response. ZI only have 1027 miles on it, but got to figure this out...can't afford to get rear ended. My truck has 4.88s, Max Tow, and the engine HP/TQ is 325/750. I'll post more as I collect info. I'm heading out for 5 weeks with this truck, so need to figure it all out. Be going through Los Angeles, San Francisco and other large cities where you need to be able to get out of your own way. Ron

Friends, Here is a follow up to my post above: I took the truck out yesterday and today to figure out how to get out of the way in traffic. It look like initially easing into it, let is shift to second (just shy of a second) and roll into it. This truck has significantly more torque management than my 09 4500. I'm getting there, but it takes finesse to haul butt when you need to. I'll start another thread while on our 5-week trip with observations about performance, fuel mileage, and any other pertinent information. Take care, Ron

It seems the engine is being dehorsepowered. But most complaints are pushing the go pedal down to fast. But their are members that have no problems.
So could it be download issue to the ECM, as is the program is down loaded to fast. I have read if programs are down loaded to fast some of the program can be messed up. Or is the program messed up. I can see if you press down then ease up the press down again you could fool the ecm causing dead pedal. But not just pressing down on the pedal to take off.

All programs like the ECM has are check summed or use some other check system to verify that they load correctly. So I do not think a messed up program with function in a ECM.

Time to chime in again. We put about 7500 miles on our 5 week trip. Pulled and performed great. Since we've been back in Jult, I've driven it solo a lot and like I stole it. The transmission has learned my driving style and has adjusted well. All things considered. I like the it... I just have to drive it like the 12K Lb beast that it is. Good luck to all of you with figuring out your trucks. Ron

I've kinda learned to live with it...If i jab or stab the throttle, and let off right away, I know for sure there will be a lag time. I read early on it was for smog reasons, ie back it the day if you pumped the throttle you'd get black smoke, but not now. ie the lag allows for the turbo/fuel to clear then throttle etc... I use mine for mostly towing which there's no reason to pass etc etc. But I do notice a "lag or gap time" if I tromp the pedal for that instant lets go type deal... She rolls once she goes and not much can keep up with her..;)

"The transmission has learned my driving style and has adjusted well."

I assume your trans is an AISIN since this is an AISIN thread. AISIN is NOT a learning trans, the 68RFE is.

I think it is the other way around. People without issues have adjusted(AKA learned) to the Aisin. SnoKing

Friends,

I'm certainly not a transmission expert and I'm sure there is a learning curve for me on this truck from my previous one. The engine and transmission are completely different. My new 2017 5500 Cummins achieves max 325 HP at 2400 RPM whereas my 2009 4500 Cummins achieved max 305 HP at 2900 RPM, stock. The AS68RC locked out 6th gear in tow/haul, but the AS69C uses all 6 gears and has a Smart Exhaust Brake. In addition to the stock differences in the two trucks, I had a Smarty on my 4500 for eight years programmed at 390HP and 790 lb ft TQ and my 5500 is bone stock 325HP and 750 lb ft of TQ. I got So, I agree there is learning going on with driving this new truck.

The wording from my 2107 Ram service manual under description of the AS69RC has the following wording: "This transmission offers full electronic control of all automatic up and downshifts, and features real-time adaptive closed-loop shift and pressure control." I guess adaptive is not necessarily learning and not sure to what extent it "adapts." I do know the quicker it shifts to 2nd, the stronger the truck accelerates, so maybe that's where I'm at in getting the truck to shift to 2nd quicker. It may be my foot that's doing the learning, but the truck seems to be accelerating better from a stop.

Finally, it may be harder comparing the P/Us and my truck in acceleration. My truck weighs almost 12K lbs without any cargo on it and a crew cab 3500 dually 4x4 I'm guessing weighs somewhere around 8K lbs w/aux fuel tank and toolbox. And 4.88s on my truck compared to 3.42s, 3.73s, and 4.10s might make it a little slower accelerating too.

As always, I'm open to comments and opinions.

Ron

Probably true!

Guess I am lucky or don't have a clue as my AISIN works GREAT.

I have to admit I had an OhShit moment a few days back with my Aisin. I tried to jump on the highway in front of what I thought was a slow....er moving car. I mashed the pedal which got me rolling but not as fast as I hoped. I generally don't drive that way or make last minute choices like that either. I have the BD throttle booster which made driving way more fun, but it doesn't rid the mighty steed of the lag.

No issues at all tuned with HPP, Throttle Sensitivity box, Pusher intake and a second gen turbo on my '16 Aisin. When I press the pedal, it just goes!
