Is it a proven engine?

Don't do it

Wow, the ol' 1500 EcoDiesel is right in the gunsights........along with some 2500 features..

Diaz is coming on strong....

I've said it before and will keep saying it......Ram screwed up by letting that engine loose....no do-overs now...

That thing is an animal........

I don't care for Nissan as a rule but I would let that one be in my driveway....

There are many reason they didnt use cummins. The biggest is $$$$. They didnt want to use three different diesel engines (6.7, 3.0, 5.0) when they only need 2. Also every dealer/ warehouse would have to stock three sets of parts and tooling since many if not all of the 5.0 parts are not shared with the 6.7. Diesel techs would also have to learn 3 different engines. I have also heard that mileage will be high teens low 20s and cummins couldnt fulfill their agreements for mileage and noise. Ram also said that the power that is getting put out by the 5.0 is approaching 3/4 power and people might as well by a 3/4 ton to be able to use it. Im not saying its right or wrong but I can see exactly why they steered away from the cummins

I understand what you are saying and probably it made sense to the Ram bean counters. However making the Cummins 5.0L an exclusive Ram powerplant would have been far better if that was on the table. I'd be very surprised if it was not on the table after the long and profitable partnership Ram and Cummins have shared with the "B" series...

As far as power, I would just as soon own things that were a little overpowered....Oh wait, I already do....:D;)

Look on the brightside. After all the Cummins fans leave they will only need to stock parts for 1 diesel engine... :D

All the reasons the 1/2 ton is selling with a diesel is proof "might as well get a 3/4 ton" is the wrong answer for some. The 5.0 may show up in other vehicles. After all success breads envy and copycats in the auto industry more than innovation.

I digress you can slam any junker diesel in a 1/2 ton and people will buy it. GM 5.7/6.2/6.5 anyone?

It's a big NOPE for me. I rarely see Nissan pickups on the road and I don't expect this pile to change that anytime soon.

I always had been of the same opinion but we had one of these vans in here last week for some work on the Thermoking unit. It had close to 100,000 miles on the clock and the V-8 was running like a swiss watch. Door hinges, interior, etc. were all wearing well. I see these van models as the next logical place for the 5.0L to land, plenty of room in the engine bay for it.

If they do a passenger van with the big "C", well that'll be something! Otherwise, if I want a high revving V8, I got my HEMI.
Pick up wise? I think the next 3/4 RAM will be FPT powered. I just feel it.

I'd like to see that engine in their Armada SUV. We had a Chevy Suburban 6.5 liter Diesel and when it ran, we got great mileage. After that we had a Nissan Armada, also a nice truck but lousy fuel economy. With three kids, the smaller cars just don't cut it for us.

I just read another article on this new pickup. It said 9.25" front axle and 13" rear axle w/3.5" axle tubes  Isn't the Ram 2500/3500.... 9.25" front and 11.8" rear?

Oh yeah, the "Triple Nickel" is back:D PS: I am thinking 13" is a misprint, that's huge.
