I'm willing to bet the Price Tag is going to be Higher then a 1/2 ton dodge if not closer to a dodge /ram 2500 or even 3500 truck . That is what's going to kill it for alot of people if they Price it as high as a bigger truck .Then you might as well Buy a bigger truck for the same Price
 
I got to see this Nissan (Titan) first hand, today. Nissan is up here doing some cold weather testing (not too cold but they are here anyway)

The truck is much better looking in person (even though it's in a camo wrap, the body lines look nice). The interior is mostly complete even though it's a proto-type. The engine is quiet and the couple of guys that are operating were freely sharing info. They claimed 25-27 mpg on the highway around here and that can be pretty hilly. No fast highways, mostly 55-65 and that's it. They wouldn't let me look under the hood but they definitely liked the truck and said it handled better than the chevy's they were driving last winter. I asked if they had done any towing and they said not yet. I'll be watching and asking more questions when I see them again.
 
The price point is interesting, both for the coming Titan as well as the Ram 1500 Eco-Diesel. I went to the Ram website and built the three trucks the way I would buy them if I just had money laying about unused: Tradesman trim, 4wd, crew cab, longest bed offered, highest rear axle ratio for towing, ... The 3500 becomes a dually with the Aisin transmission. I got the following MSRP:

1500 Eco-Diesel: $41,500
2500 Cummins: $48,000
3500 Cummins: $52,300

Everybody needs to think about what they want, but if we assume the same ability to make a deal on all three trucks, I would get the 3500 dually with Aisin for that cost difference. I wish I had gotten a 3500 dually when I got my 2012, but I had not found the TDR at that point and was quite uneducated.

I would pick the dually because then I have all kinds of options for the future. If I was certain of what I wanted to do and knew no heavier trailers were ever coming then maybe I would go the 1500.

I like what I read, except it has Aluminum heads & Glow plugs. This truck is going to turn the 1/2 ton truck market on its head and carve out some of the 3/4 ton market as well. Toyota won't allow it to stay unopposed, but with the Cummins for a power plant, how are they going to compete. As far as price is concerned, how does Toyota sell its Tundra for so much and seem to be able to sell them? I was astounded at the prices I saw on the window sticker of a Tundra, jeez, I could buy a much better frame engine and ability with a Dodge 1500 for a lot less.

This is more or less how I feel. The 5.9 has been around for some time. The 6.7 came along and was problematic in stock form. For those who didn't mind losing a warranty could spend several thousand additional dollars could eliminate those problems. Nonetheless...... IMO, it took Dodge-Ram-Cummins several years to get the motor right (adding Urea).

I'm a Cummins fan but I wouldn't buy something just because it has a C stamped on it. It needs to have some proven history behind it.
 
Well with that theory, a Dodge would never had been designed with a Cummins. Remember Dodge resisted the idea, until Cummins took the bull by the horn and designed it anyway, the rest is history. I have a first generation 6.7 although it's a C&C version and it has been just fine. If you get groceries with it your going to have issues, with that being said I'd rather have the latest version with urea.
 
I still can't believe cummins went with glow plugs and timing chains. Just with the chains, it won't be as robust as a B.

That wasn't the fault of Cummins. While they met 2010 standards three years ahead of schedule, the Punishment Agency at that time had not permitted the use of SCR, as it involved another process that the owner/driver had to take care of. Most of the problems were related to the NOX adsorber and its constant regeneration requirements. Once that was gone, the problems went away. Ford and Chevy didn't have the problems because they didn't meet the same standards that Cummins did in 2007.
 
There are many reason they didnt use cummins. The biggest is $$$$. They didnt want to use three different diesel engines (6.7, 3.0, 5.0) when they only need 2. Also every dealer/ warehouse would have to stock three sets of parts and tooling since many if not all of the 5.0 parts are not shared with the 6.7. Diesel techs would also have to learn 3 different engines. I have also heard that mileage will be high teens low 20s and cummins couldnt fulfill their agreements for mileage and noise. Ram also said that the power that is getting put out by the 5.0 is approaching 3/4 power and people might as well by a 3/4 ton to be able to use it. Im not saying its right or wrong but I can see exactly why they steered away from the cummins

How does the introduction of a Fiat Diesel cut the number of diesels to be serviced?

I wasn't putting fault on Cummins. I know they did their best to avoid urea for as long as they could. I don't like the urea either but under the circumstances, I always thought that it would be the best solution to make the 6.7 work for all users; haulers, grocery getters etc etc etc.
