Is it a proven engine?

Don't do it

It's not a live axle front end. Just another complex independent front suspension.

Yes, similar to GM, but I was just commenting on the ring gear size, I think that is what Ram and GM use on their heavy duties. So......I am still going to call it a 5/8's ton:-laf

Did anyone else notice the emblem on the console on the interior pic it looked a lot like a longhorn to me wonder if Diaz got away with the longhorn edition not being trademarked.

The whole interior looked like a Longhorn in my opinion. Inside looks good....outside, not so much!

On paper it looks like it could be a good truck. As on who has had a couple of Nissan Hardbody trucks in my youth I would have to give this a serious look if I have a need for a half ton. I would sure look hard if the power plant found its way in to the vans as I always need new vans at work.

Toyota Tundra

I would rather have the Toyota tundra when it comes out. they look better. Not too crazy about the glow plugs in the 5.0 though. Article does say they are good for life of motor though. However long that is.

I see people trying to stretch less truck into being enough truck, even after buying a bigger fifth wheel, etc. Most of them end up buying what they should have chosen to begin with. This Nissan looks like it is intended to fit between the Ram 1500 and 2500. Hopefully there won't be so long a learning curve as there was with Dodge beefing up the First Gens year after year.

A half ton may be ok for some BUT ONLY IF it had an Inline AND solid front axle on the 4x4....a V-8.....no thank you...if I drop a wrench I want it to hit the ground, rather than into a who knows where rat hole! I wouldn't own any 1/2 ton 4x4 with an IFS front end!

That's OK, you just remove the cab to work on some of the V-8 diesels, so finding tools is not and issue! Other than finding a four post lift to take the cab off!

If this truck has a decent payload (2000+ lbs, I don't know the specifics) I think they're going to be a big player in the half-ton truck market. Currently many half ton trucks fall into the 1500 lb payload category. Many of the top trim levels can be as low as 900 lbs and few can spec out over 2000 lbs in certain lower trim levels.
If the payload is high enough this would be a good vehicle for those towing bumper pull campers. Many of the half tons are "maxed out" in payload by the time you put 1000 lbs of tongue weight, passengers and other gear in the truck.
If I look at the specifications on my 2009 Dodge it's more of a heavy half ton truck. It has a paltry 2,050 lbs of payload - sort of embarrassing in a way...... but it's actually perfect specifications for towing my 8000 lb camper which is enough for me to put some firewood, tools etc.... in the bed and still have a fiberglass camper top.

I have never really been a fan of Nissan styling but I think they are really doing their homework with the combination of the engine, transmission and axles. The independent suspension doesn't bother me. For 90% of the people on the road it performs well.
It seems that Fred Diaz is really thumbing his nose at Fiat - "you could have had this"!
If this Nissan truck is good I think it's going to leave Ram in the dust with such a light duty truck. At least the Ram can haul those couple bags of mulch in style.

They were? First Gen's had to be strengthened??? I had a 89 never had an issue put over 500,000 miles on it towing more than twice it's rating never once had the drivetrain fail.

The Only Major problem the first gen's had or have is the auto trans Stock torque converter is Crap the rest of the truck run's fine .

I think the truck looks good, especially in the copper color. It looks like the Nissan team thought through the entire drive-train; I recall lots of comments here on the forum speculating that they would not.

Cummins engine, Aisin transmission, big beefy American Axle rear end, exhaust brake, big brake discs, ... - isn't this all the stuff that has received such positive response in the Ram HD trucks?

I tow my travel trailer (9.5K), boat and trailer (4K), boy scout trailer (5K), and utility trailer (2K). This looks like it would fit the bill perfectly and use a little less fuel and maybe be a little less cash up-front.

Sure don't want to have to lift the cab off the truck to do anything on it, though.

I'll be looking this fall.

Now, if the small Cummins in-line 4 cylinder would come out in a vehicle like my Jeep Patriot!!
