My Manual says 24K when towing a lot. I figured 8K towing justifies 24K change.

So the 16 manual says 20k??? That's interesting. I would say they must have had reason to lower it.

Here is a pic of my diff on my 11 HO Dually. I changed the Lube at around 15K the first time and used AMZ/OIL 75-110 SevereGear. The fluid had 50K on it. Total on truck 65K. The GL LOOKED great with 50K on it. This lube at 24K looked horrible and the Lab's LOW viscosity tells the story.

I was told by the service manager it was 15K for frequent towing. Owner's manual says every 20K when towing frequently. I changed mine at 40K, my shudder in turns, is gone. Straight it is barely noticeable, if at all.

I wonder why the quick oil changes for the AAM axle. Is it too small for the power that Cummins makes now and the huge GCW's, poor oil from the factory, maybe a difference in the large pinion 3.42 v/s the small pinion 4.10. 15-24k mile oil changes seems like Ram is not very confident in their axle choice. Maybe a change to the big Dana like the 4500/5500 use is in order.

It only shows up in the 2013 diesel supplement scheduled maintenance table. if you meet this it states every 2 years or 20K miles:

Same words in the 2016 diesel supplement page 321. Maybe people are missing the asterisk. That is where it states the 20K mileage interval. Since the table in divided up in 12K intervals obviously it doesn't fit very well. The asterisk takes you to the note at the end of the table.

Not sure why your printed one is different 12V.

I just looked at the 2016 online one in the regular owners manual maintenance section, page 886, (which I'm guessing is the page you are a referencing above) if so, its changed to 20K miles or 2 years.

In the diesel supplement its has the below note with the asterisk.

"Inspect the front and rear axle
surfaces. If gear oil leakage is
suspected, check the fluid level.
If using your vehicle for police,
taxi, fleet, off-road or frequent
trailer towing, change axle fluid".*

That 24K is kilometers not miles. It says 12 months or 15K miles whichever occurs first.

Check the diesel supplement it says something different.

That is from the Diesel section "Maintenance Chart - Cummins Diesel Engine"

No wonder the rear was grabbing and the Lab results were so bad. Really surprising the bottom of the pumpkin was clean and magnet had so little wear metals on it.

I'm betting my "REAR END" will be quiet now!

My 2015 Diesel sup also has:

* Inspect the front and rear axle surfaces every
20,000 miles (32,000 km). If gear oil leakage is suspected,
check the fluid level. If using your vehicle for police, taxi,
fleet, off-road or frequent trailer towing change the axle
fluid every 20,000 miles (32,000 km).

Nowhere do I see a normal change statement. Snoking

Amazing all the different info on the same subject! Mine reads like there should have been a mileage given IF towing etc. There is no other mileage statement other then the 15K.

Mine looked a lot like yours 12V. Lots of stuff on the magnet, oil looked dark for what I remember on my 03. I changed it about with about 19K on the odometer. Its apples to apples as I'm pulling the same trailer I pulled with the 03. My case was clean except for the magnet. I didn't sample, maybe I should have. I installed a Mag-Hytec cover and replaced the oil with the same 75W-90 factory stuff.

I find it interesting that with 65K on my 11 HO Dually and 50K on the AMZ/OIL 75-110 the gears looked AWESOME and the lube came out a nice golden brown. I was towing a LOT at 29K combined with 3.42's.

I am sure some would dismiss it but to me it shows the VERY high quality lubricating of the AMZ/OIL 75-110 SevereGear.

SNOKING come on over I have the 75-110 in bulk.

For the 2016 manual there are no check boxes for that line - just an "*". At the end of the maintenance section on page 324 it states:

* Inspect the front and rear axle surfaces every 20,000
miles (32,000 km). If gear oil leakage is suspected, check
the fluid level. If using your vehicle for police, taxi, fleet,
off-road or frequent trailer towing change the axle fluid
every 20,000 miles (32,000 km).
