Well went to put a 2 5/16 ball hitch in the truck it is class 5 2 1/2" slide in receiver. Would not go in. Well maybe 1" that is it.
Went over to the local dodge dealer it was Saturday and they were closed ( Just wanted to see if it would fit another Ram Tried 4 others 1 fit perfect 3 same as my truck. Went over to Chevrolet dealer across st tried 4 all slid in no problem.
Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks

I did have to use it Saturday and I got it in with a 15lb sledge hammer. It took the tow truck and 15 ton winch and the sledge hammer to get it back out.

Take a grinder to the ball mount and remove some material. I have always used the sleeve and a 2" ball mount and been unimpressed with how loose it all is.

It fit fine in my old 2014 GMC, it fits even loose in my sons 2017 F-550. I wont grind it, it's going back to Keller bros Dodge monday.

So, this isn't so complex... Whats inside the receiver that is interfering with the fitment? Perhaps sand/grit? Why not get in there with a long screw driver and figure it out? Seems like a waist of time to go to the dealer with this until you know what the trouble is..

I would guess the receiver tube is made in China and is metric:) or there is a 360 degree weld around it and it shrunk.

There is no welds inside of it. Was just made to small. There is no dirt or anything in it the truck is 7 days old.

I just looked at mine and just installed mine work perfect no problem..You stated the factory Ram insert was in the storage so you were using somebody else's sleeve insert ? If you get a chance post some pictures of what is going on.

I would try the OEM insert as some hitches do not have a round enough corner on the shank to go into a receiver with the rounded corners. Also, now that you forced the shank in, where was it making contact at?

No the male end I am using is a class 5 2 1/2" to go into the class 5 . You need the insert for class 4.

So you are inserting the ball hitch shank directly into the receiver, with no insert. Did the pin lock fit into the Ram reciever and the hitch shank holes or are they binding because the hitch shank holes are to small ? So I gather the ball hitch platform is made by whoooo.Post up a photo would love to see this, you say you need a wrecker, and a sledge amazing stuff happening out there. But I just went and bought a new garden hose stretched it out and the fitting just came right off the nut that attach's to the water connection.Plus just dragging the hose across are concret made 2 holes in it at as well.HomeDepot was like "say what"...

Like Sag2 said, try the OEM insert. If it fits, get another ball hitch. If not, get the dealer to swap out the receiver hitch. I guess if it fits every other truck and others state that there's is loose, then the manufacturer tolerances aren't too tight on somebody's end. Probably both.

Here are the photos of the receiver and the hitch. It fits in all vehicles we have here and not the ram unless you want to smash it in.

New truck and you're even thinking of not making the dealer fix the problem? There must be weld spatter or something else in the tube, but no matter what, it is a manufacturing defect and a warranty issue.
