2018 2500 6.7 Cummins Fan Clutch

Hi. I'm hearing an odd faint noise in the engine compartment kind of like a whistle. I grabbed one of the blades on my fan and pushed lightly toward the radiator, then pulled lightly toward the engine. There is slight movement of the fan on the shaft/clutch. Should there be any play in the fan at all? TIA

Usually there is none. Maybe your bearing is gone, it can be exchanged, no need to buy the whole fan or so. Genos has them.

How many miles on it? Most likely the tensioner. It is rare to replace the fan hub bearing. Here is a link to all the parts you might need. If I recall, there is a really slight amount of movement of the fan clutch shaft. At least on the thermal type clutches, not sure about the electric types.

Should be no movement on the fan clutch or the shaft. Depend son where the movement is. If the clutch assembly is moving on the shaft then it is the clutch assembly worn. If the clutch assembly and the shaft move it is the support bearing, either worn or the mounting bolt has loosened.

I’ve known of two 4th Gen Rams that have had a fan hub bearing fail.

Remove the belt. Spin each pulley by hand to see if any are trouble: make noise or are "rough" when turning by hand.

Check the turbo area for boots that may have rubbed through causing an intake air leak.
