RAM tech at the dealer, who just attended a Cummins class, was told to drain the oil for a half hour and only fill to 11 1/2 qts. The CCV filter gets clogged and saturated if overfilled. So, just changed my oil and filled to 11 1/2 qts. but oil showed just barely at the tip of the dipstick. Poured in the other 1/2 qt. to bring it up to full.

The distance from ADD to FULL is 2 quarts, so 1/2 quart didn’t bring you up that much. If you’re at full now with the added 1/2 quart then you likely misread the dipstick before and it was above 1/2 way between ADD and FULL.

I meant to say it brought it up to 12 qts. Truck didn't sit long enough after shut down for oil to settle into the pan. The point I'm making is when you overfill the oil will this saturate the CCV?

You can saturate the CCV if the engine oil foams, but you have to be quite a bit overfilled for that. How much? Hard to say, but 12 quarts isn’t too much.

The 11.5 qts likely deals from rapid changes where the block isn’t allowed to fully drain.
