Bought a 2018 ram 3500 big horn that has Uconnect 8.4 no GPS, on the 2017 the software was installed and you just needed to get it authorized for $600 but the 2018 ram GPS didn’t come installed. So does anybody know how to get it installed or if I can get it installed I can use Apple CarPlay but that’s kind of cumbersome we have to keep your phone plugged in there want to change anything you got to hang up your phone etc. Cetra I just want something or I can ask to be directed it tells me and I get there

As you can see in your link, this stops at 2017. The 18's have a different manafacture of radio and I am told you can't just add a code to make good work. I run Garman and or my phone plus wave app

what says your Dealer?
for sure you'll need him anyways to enable the feature even if you install some hardware yourself.

The dealer will need to add the software that allows the control units to recognize any new hardware. They also have to add it to your VIN so that any flashes won't over-ride the recently installed hardware

Just my .02--spend about $150 and get a Garmin portable unit. I had the factory GPS on my 2012 and didn't really like it. I have it again on my 2018, but use the Garmin virtually all the time. The Garmin you can have a passenger adjust on the road vs. the factory unit you need to be parked. Updates on the factory cost a lot where Garmin is often free. Plus with the Garmin, you can use it in other vehicles.

......or instead just use the Smartphone with an adequate App.
Thats what I do.

Why; do you need a GPS on your truck? Is this for towing or just day to day driving. If this is just for day to day driving I would use WAZE on your phone. My wife and son use this on their phones when driving their cars with great success.
I do not use WAZE but a Rand McNally GPS unit, but I am towing a 5th wheel trailer and WAZE does not really work for that. With my GPS unit I specify the total length of truck and trailer, total number of propane tanks and size, weight of trailer plus the height of the trailer. I am than routed accordingly on the proper roads for my towing needs. I do not think a truck GPS added on to your U-connect would work for your towing needs if that is what you want it for.
Just my $0.02

The only reason our vehicles have Navigation, is because they came with it in the trim level we like. The last new vehicle I drove without Nav, was a company owned 2014 2500 CTD 5.0 radio, and I used a phone mount for my iPhone 5. I it worked great using the iPhone and USB. Save your money!

Yeah, can't you use either the Apple or Android nav apps via the U-Connect now with the 2018's? That's what I would do, sure wish I had the option on my 2015.

One map update will cost you more than a Garmin with lifetime maps. Get a Garmin, if you want maps and directions get a gps, if you want to talk get a phone, just my 2cents of course. I have the Nav radio in mine, never updated, use my Garmin IF directions are needed.

I have the nav and hardly ever use it. I have a Garmin on the dash and use it all the time. No need to look down to middle dash and the stupid giant truck icon covers too much map.

In the city I sometimes turn it on as a zoomed out supplement to the Garmins. In winter I put my motorcycle Garmin on the dash too.
