I have the pucks and wouldn’t trade them for any other setup, but that’s with a long bed and I did do a reorganize of my gear to get rid of a full time toolbox on this truck. I also wouldn’t buy a short bed.

I did want more fuel so I added a Titan 55 gallon tank so that I didn’t lose any bed space and so far 55 gallons has been more than plenty.

It’s on my ‘18 too. I originally thought I would have to remove it but I’ve been able to store everything I need year round still. In the winter I add a small toolbox to the bed for chains, straps, and other stuff.

I have ratchet straps in the passenger side rear seat in floor compartment. In the drivers side in floor I have my spare fuses, bulbs, code reader, multi-meter etc. On the storage level under the rear seat backs, have the spare fuel filters, rain gear, hydraulic jack and a few other things. Under the drivers side seat I have flares, emergence survival kit and other small things. Someday I will do the mod that allows the rear CC seat backs to be folded forward, which gives a little more storage. Rear passenger side under seat area is full of sub-woofer. In the truck bed (under Bak-Flip cover) I have a tub of tools, star wrench, tow straps, a second hydraulic jack, hitch insert with 2" and 2 5/16" balls and some other things.

The CC seat mod involves unbolting the seat and space it up a bit or grinding the hook latch that holds the seat back from folding forward. When you lift the lower seat, you will see the seat back going up, however not high enough to clear the latch. So you space the seat up a bit or grind the hook shorter.

I have a buddy with a ‘10 who did the backseat mod and I didn’t see it being worth it, and I recall him saying he likely wouldn’t do it again.

Has anything changed on the newer trucks?

Well in almost 5 years I have not rushed to do it. I may unbolt the smaller drivers side and take a peek after I finish the porch roof I am currently building. Replacement fuel tank is on my list also. Ron and I may do a two for on both 2015's. His being a long bed he get a gallon or two more.

Those are nice boxes, all the pictures they show are of long boxes save one and that one with a short box would cover the pucks for a 5th wheel (pic shows box with a gooseneck). The box that goes at the tailgate is nice but I would consider that WITH a box in the front of the bed also.
I should point out that I have no bad experience towing with the Mega Cab, it has plenty of room to maneuver trailer wise and pulls nice. I personally just prefer the full bed for stuff while not towing, an aux fuel tank/tool box that is good size and the option for larger aftermarket fuel tank replacement.

Which is why I said " they just may have something" he can use. He didn't mention what his hitch set up is or how much storage he really needs. It was just something for him to consider if he didn't already know about them.

With three 5th wheels over the past 20 years, I prefer to tow with a long bed truck. I prefer to not have to deal with slider hitches, particularly the manual ones. I've towed with two pickup trucks, both long beds, but my real preference is using a Cab and Chassis (C&C) Crew Cab (CC) truck with an after market tow body, which provides max clearances for the pin box and 5th wheel RV clearances all the way around.

I like having a 9ft 4in bed, have plenty of storage in 4 side toolboxes, have plenty of room for an inbed 60gal aux fuel tank, and loading a flat bed is easy from the sides or the rear. Bed came with aircraft aluminum cargo tie down system.

EDIT: C&C trucks come standard with 52gal tank, has 22gal aux tank option.

Only thing, Max Cab not available on C&C truck, but CC is.

Anyhoo, one more consideration.

Cheers, Ron

Stick with the crew/longbed combo!!! LOTS of rear seat room with no compromises.

You definitely loose a massive amount of storage behind the rear seat, while the leg room on a crew cab is good there is just no comparison to a Mega Cab for storage.
Agreed, I think I’m going to go with the mega cab, I’ll just convert the fifth wheel hitch on the RV to a goose ball hitch and just run the goose hitch in the truck. That should give me more than enough room in the bed for a truck box. That with the area behind the seats should give me everything I need in terms of space. Then I’ll just have to get a titan fuel tank to get me the 50 gallon tank instead of the stock 28 gallon the short bed comes with.

You could do what this member did.
