Got the Jeep back after almost 5 weeks. Had it back overnight, and the wife was driving it to work the next morning. Started smoking badly, and was spraying fuel all over. Not really sure where the leak is coming from(was so mad, didn't even look for it), but its back at the dealer. Not really overly impressed with the dealer either. We stopped in after the engine had been removed to grab a pair of sunglasses out of the vehicle. It was in another building where they do big repairs like transmissions, engines, etc. Those bays looked worse than when I tear down something in my garage. Parts everywhere, dirty, just not something you would not think you would see at dealer. I worked at CAT for 5 years, and never seen the guys in the truck shop make a mess like that when doing a engine rebuild. I love making payments on a vehicle we can't drive.
One of the things that held us up from getting it back was they said the turbo drain gasket was bad and it was not included in the top end gasket kit. FCA does not list a turbo drain gasket. Dealer replaced the turbo bc of the drain gasket! Another thing, crank sensor was bad. To replace the crank sensor, they had to drop the transmission to get to it. If this is the case on these two items, it really makes me wonder how expensive this vehicle is going to be to maintain in the long run.

jmarx Check this out....... http://fcauthority.com/2017/02/fiat-chrysler-may-be-working-on-new-inline-six-diesel/
Here's my comment at Ecodieselram.com .....................I don't know what to think of it... Been really busy and Now I'm leaving to the cabin in West Yellowstone for 14 Days... It would explain a lot , 1st I could not figure out why VM was not getting the QC under control 3 years into production. My guess FCA crunch the #s and figure it would be counter productive to Make changes in the power plant and production, when in development of replacing the VM3.0.. The EPA probably was un planned and why spend millions $ when a replacement in the works. IMO when the news hit FCA corp it was just halt production to save $ , hoping R/D could come up with a quick Fix ,That never did and not going to happen

Thanks for the insight. I know its been mentioned a couple times, but this engine really is a hero or zero. It seems the ones that have issues have major ones. The others seem to be fine.

My question is why all the sudden FCA is ad vesting that the VM 3.0 will be available in late 2017, I am bit curious is this new 3.0 liter or ?

I also saw late availability on their website while I was building a new truck. *I seriously doubt it'll be a new design. This one has been decent and I suspect with some tweaking can be a really good engine.*

Now That Ford in the game FCA has no choice... Rumors are every were on the New F-150 Diesel. My guess the F-150 will be fitted with 3.8L+... I see No way the 3.0 can compete, In order to get the 3.0 to meet current EPA Standards the power level will need to be reduce to 210 / 220HP. With speeds 80MPH in many states that HP will struggle to meet and keep the mileage competitive.

The F 150 getting 3.0 V6 engine, was suppose to be from Land Rover and build in Mexico is my understanding, this is waking up FCA to repair the engine currently used in there 1500 and Jeeps.

Ford spent over $500m+ on development and production on small diesel displacement, that's a lot of coin for a drop in engine. Naaa they got something different coming.

This was my engine at 50k miles. * I was driving and heard a sound like hammers on the engine and then a huge breaking sound and then it died....Dealer just installed a crate engine last week and am looking at a 2500 again. * FCA and the dealer have been great to work with and have imbued much brand loyalty in me through this mess.*

If You followed My postings at 1500diesel.com. Before I demanded to have all My posts deleted and 97hmcs Banned Me (Late 2016) back than (Fall) 2015 I label VM QC as the root cause of the rotating mass failures.... again its a hero/zero engines..... and the only option is establish trends on OAs .The puking will continue I read on other forums 2 more in the last 5 days...Both 50K motors.
