Guns, Bows, Shooting Sports, and Hunting New Toy

Guns, Bows, Shooting Sports, and Hunting the recession must be over

Well dawg mah cats !!!!!!!!! I stopped into a place today that used to sell boats. Now they sell guns and fishing gear. They had a whole shelf of 22mag. I told the guy that I had heard the 22mag was hard to get ahold of these days (I had called cabelas last week and they told me they hadnt had any in for a year). Well, this guy told me that maybe a year ago it was hard to find. But now it is quite plentiful. He said what was hard to get now are the 22LR. I've got maybe 500 or more 22LR that I bought years ago. I think I paid 70 or 80 cents a box of 50 for those. I should have offered to sell them to him. I could have made quite a profit. But Ill probably shoot those all off in the next couple of weeks with my little marlin semi auto.

Im not going to go join a rebel group, so I only bought 2 boxes of 50. But they were only $11 a box. The ones I bought last week at a different store (and they would only sell you one or two boxes) were $20 for a box of 50.

Do not shoot 22 short or 22 long rifle through it. 22 mags are a hoot to shoot. No kick but more powerful than a 22. They scream down range along the velocity of a17hmr with a bit more energy the farther down range the bigger the difference in energy. Only problem you will have is finding ammo for it. While it is usually easy to find the last year it has gone the way of hte 22 long rifle just plain hard to find any. Used to be you could get a box of 50 for about $10 now it is more like $12 when you can find it. It is out there people are just buying it up like crazy. One of my personal favorite plinking rounds personal favorite 22mag ammo is cci maxi mags.

yes it is a 22 magnum and ammo will be marked 22 magnum or 22wmr. If you compare two shells side by side you would see the obvious difference like here

there is no difference except for length... and it is very safe to shoot 22 lr..... Its just hard to find 22 now... . good thing i have bought over the years and not in need of any...

There IS a difference. In many guns, short, long, and long rifle can be used. Magnum is not the same case diameter. I have a Ruger Single Six and there are two cylinders, one for LR and one for magnum. The magnum case is bigger. CCI MiniMag cartridges are the same dimensions with a lighter bullet but shouldn't be confused with magnums. Only shoot what is stamped on the barrel.

22WMR is fun to shoot, I have Ruger Single-Six with interchangeable cylinders for 22LR and 22WMR.

Several aspects of the case are slightly larger on the WMR, so you definitely don't want to shoot LR in it.
I just tried to put a 22 mag in my Ruger Single Six's 22 long rifle cylinder. The bullet will go in, but none of the case. If one had to use a 22 mag revolver for up close self defense and the bullet didn't do the job, the muzzle blast would fry the perp!

That's what I was afraid of..... That's why I gave the decimal numbers, so there'd be no argument about the Long Rifle fitting in the chamber of the Magnum, but not being safe to fire.....

It is NOT SAFE to attempt to fire . 22Long Rifle, Short, CB or Longs in a rifle chambered for . 22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire. . 22 Long Rifle can be fired in the obsolete . 22 Long chamber, but not vice versa.....

I've seen it done, and had to run chamber reamers in chambers to straighten out chamber walls, and even recommend some not be fired ever again without being rechambered..... In fact, in certain rifles, it's not even safe to dry fire them, as the firing pin will damage the outside lip of the chamber, making a bur, and possibly damaging the firing pin... .
