This may turn out to be a dumb question, but what exactly does a silencer ring do (obviously silence) and where is it?(obviously on the turbo somewhere) Does it do anything except quiet down turbo? Are there any reasons not to remove it? I straight piped my dodge and it sounds great. Every where I go people want to know how I made it sound like a big rig and do I have some kind of expensive exhaust? It turns out the owner and two mechanics at the local Midas have cummins as well and when they found out what I needed a 5'?" piece of 3" pipe for, they cut it, bent it, flanged it for the price of the pipe and a sixpack of budwiser. But I've had a couple of people tell me to remove silencer ring. But I don't trust these people farther than I can throw them. (That's why I ask If there is even such a thing as a silencer ring). Where is it and how hard is it to remove? exactly how loud will it be? hell, If nothing else, I'd like to experiment and see. If I knew what I was doing I would have done it yesterday. Just thought I'd post and see if it was a bad idea, unlike my usual mode of operation: experiment now hate life later

It is there, and you can remove it. Take the hose off the turbo that comes from the airbox and you will see a big snap ring in the opening of the turbo. Take the snapring out and the silencer ring will come right out. Depending on what airfilter you have, it can make the turbo whine audible to annoying. Take it out and see if you like the noise, if you don't like it put it back in, no harm in trying it. The ONLY reason to take it out is for more turbo whine. If you do a search there are a ton of posts about this and even some good pictures of the ring. Hope this helps.

To really appreciate the Turbo whine after you take the silencer ring out, you need a Psychotty or the K&N RE-0880. Or at least take the fenderwell duct off if you are keeping the stock airbox.
