Hello my name is Quinton. I'm new on here and to cummins trucks in general. I've seen some posts to know alittle about this question I have but still confused. I just bought a 98' 24v 5spdNV QC 4x4 dually truck with no engine in it. My question is I also have a running 97' 12v 47re RC 2wd dually that is pretty rough for body panels. I want to put the 97' 12valve in the 98 truck. I read that I need a 98' 12v pcm and engine harness to make it work. Can you confirm this? I see (Dieseldemon) may know of this area as well but he hasn't been on the site since 2017. I bought a 98' 12v pcm from an auto truck. I have also bought a 98' 12v auto engine harness. Can I make this work what am I missing still any and all comments appreciated.

I can give you a theory based on what I've read, not on personal experience. With the PCM and the harness I believe you could easily swap the engine and transmission out of the '97. A couple of the connectors (oil pressure, coolant temp, etc) might be different. '97 was a cross over year for pins. If you plan on keeping the 5 speed you might have an issue with the neutral safety switch. A little cutting and splicing shouldn't be too difficult. Essential to you would be to have a factory service manual (they contain wire diagrams) for the '98 and it might be beneficial to have one for the '97 as well. Genos sells them in both print and on CD. I much prefer the print manual for chasing wires because there are a lot of pages. You could get the much less expensive CDs and buy a few reams of paper for the printer too. https://www.genosgarage.com/product/dfsm98-print/dodgeram-factory-service-manuals

Yes with that being said about the connectors I haven't put the engine in just yet still buying some clutch stuff I need as I want to run the stick trans in it still. I have noticed with the 98' 12v harness I bought the oil pressure sensor is different I haven't checked the temp sensor yet. I'm going to have to figure out this neutral safety setup with this auto harness tho. Hopefully I can just run a wire down to get it to work. The 98' 24v harness I took out did have a plug for the trans and for the clutch pedal.

So I went and found myself a 98' 12V stick engine harness. Now I can figure some of this out alittle easier. Looks like my coolant temp sensor is also another item changed from 97 to 98. You guys like pics? Both 98' 12V auto and stick harnesses in my possession :)
