Finally got the guages in, sent the 230hp plate back, received and installed the 250hp plate in my 180hp ram. I finished the install in about 3 hrs due to that pesky little break-off screw on the AFC housing. That little bugger made me test my patience and tool cashe too. I got it out by tapping the edges with a long, thin cold roll chisel turning it in 1/8 increments. It went pretty fast after that and the ride was next.

No real change with light to medium throttle while letting it go through the gears, but once 4th lock kicked in- I punched it. It felt like I had unhooked my flatbed with 30 bales of hay to begin with, but the difference was clearly more than that. The motor sounded like it was really pissed off and kept pulling the truck past the safe speed for the country road I was on. I was tired, dirty, thirsty, but satisfied. Very, very satisfied and grinning ear to ear. #ad
Pyro unloaded came to a stop at 1050, boost to about 32 psi.

A big thanks to TST and this site. You guys are great.

What's next? Probably start with the transmission upgrades.

Steve.

Heetseeker_1:

Glad to hear you are happy with the
cam plate change. I did almost the
same thing as you did, going from
one plate to another, but always
UP on H. P. !

The next step will be the #5 TST
280 H. P. plate and then the 370
Diamond B injectors, governor
spring kit, AFC spring kit.
However, your decision to do
the transmission next is also
what I had to do. The stock
TC/valve body just can't take
it.

Good Luck!

Thanks John

I'll be looking for transmission products soon and will search the archives for the discussions. Got to love that feature on this site! #ad

I am tempted, though, to go with more engine mods but I wanted to beef the transmission not rebuild it. Too bad it isn't bullet proof from the factory.

Later, Steve.

Glad to see you like the 250 plate-you'll love the # 5 plate. I agree to do something to the trans. I have rebuilt mine and will be on my 3rd TC soon. I ordered a Bill K TC 3 wweks ago and I'm still waiting for that little brown truck #ad
. After TC goes in I plan on having installed the gov spring kit and afc springs and have the injector shop "optimize" my pump after the do the add-ons. Next step after this is 370 injectors and 16cm turbo housing.

Installing Transfer-Flow 98 gal. bed tank, governor spring kit(BD), and Bill Kodalay's TC on 96 dualie.

Sounds like your buildup is going well and getting more bullet-proof all the time. I have a shop in Sacramento that says they can build a TC for me with a 1600 stall for about 400 bucks, but I am skeptical at best. What makes Bill K's TC so prefered by our beloved Cummins owners?

Steve.
