I've been following the progress of Mel, Pete and others waiting for their trucks to arrive. And finally decided to join TDR. TDR has been an awsome resource and I'd like to thank everybody here for posting up.

I ordered my truck on 2/7 and it was loaded on the rails in Saltillo on 3/13. it then left Laredo on 3/25. It was finally unloaded from the railcar last night in Benicia CA. I hope it doesn't remain there as long as my friends did!

My buddy just took delivery today of his 3500 QC 6. 7. It had been sitting in the very yard where mine is sitting now for two weeks +. He ordered his over three weeks before I did. My experience just getting the truck ordered was something else. I called several dealers in the Bay Area trying to get a quote over the phone the first two weeks in January, and no one would do it. They all wanted me to come down and test drive thier 5. 9L. I told them I had driven the 5. 9 and it was a great truck but I want the 68RFE trans. The 3 dealerships I called wouldn't even return my calls, seems they just wanted to sell me whatever they had in inventory. After a few frustrating weeks my buddy told me he had ordered his from Red Bluff Dodge up north so I called them. Mr. Gil Light faxed me a sheet with all the options available, I called him back telling him what I wanted and he faxed back a price sheet with the FWP price and told me about the Farm Bureau discount. No hassles, answered what questions he could and if he didnt know he didn't BS me, he went and found out. Awsome. A pleasure to deal with. Another co-worker is pulling the trigger on a QC with Gil at Red Bluff Dodge tomorrow morning. We are going to need a bigger parking lot here at the firehouse with these big CTD's out front!! BTW all three of us are converting over from Ferd!! Now if I could just get my hands on my truck..... Oo.

Get your truck built the way you want it now for $4. 5 - 5K under Invoice/FWP pricing...

You can pick it up in Spokane WA or have him drop ship it to a local dealer...

Great news and how exciting. I'm hoping mine will be ready to pick up in early May. Sounds like you got the same truck. Make sure to add it to your signature too. Hopefully you can pick it up on Friday!

Great post Mike. The more information about the buying experiance we can give to fellow TDR Members the fewer poor dealers will be in business. Knowledgeable buyers rule.

Are all three CTD Dodges in the parking lot going to be RED? I too drove the blue shield. The ferd diesel caused me to change brands. That was a good thing.

No word yet but I hope my truck gets transported to the dealer this week.

I've asking everyone I know to keep an eye out for the $500 coupon which Pete received in the mail. every bit helps.

Mel. . no there not all red. . LOL... I chose the inferno red but the others are grey and I belive my other buddy pulled the trigger on a white one day before yesterday... I hope for him its true DC extended orders through the month. Mine will be the lone MC so far both the others are QC LWB.

Pete... your Padres embarrassed my Giants in our house... hope your truck gets delivered by the time you get to WA on Thurs. .

My MC is still sitting in Benicia alongside the docks where all those vehicles are unloaded from Japan. I guess they get put on the railcars our trucks vacated.

later guys,

Mike

PLanciers

Plase tell us how you tracked your rail car? How did you get which car your truck was on? How many distribution yards are there for the trucks coming from MX? I know; so many questions!!!!! Thanks

Fred,

I was able to track my railcar from Saltillo to Spokane because it stayed completely within the Union Pacific Railroad system. Point of entry for the US is Laredo Texas. Many from there wind up going intermodal ship/rail to their final destination, only your dealer can tell you if this applies to you. I got my railcar number from my dealer (Adam Macomber) once my status code went to KZ M indicating first rail departure. The website link for the UPRR is http://my.uprr.com/pet/motorVehicleTrace.jsp .

Ditto... . once it hits the rails DC doesn't track it except 1st rail dep/arr 2nd rail dep/arr. Prior to rail transport your dealer can check on status or I just called DC direct. the first call I gave them my VON, then they give you a reference number for future calls. the most difficult part is getting through the recorded menus the first go-round. I have the sequence of number keys to enter if anyone needs it.

Happy Easter all.

Man, if I get a $500 coupon in the mail I will FEDEX it to you. Your bike in Benicia. It reminds me of the car the Army sent back from Germany for me. It sat there 30 some days before I was notified. What a pain. Life did get better. When my Dodge came into Spokane at the rail yard Adam had it at the dealership the second day.

Botchy and the other defectors

Mel. . thanks for the Fed Ex offer I'd flip the bill and throw in a gift certificate or something for a finders fee..... lol... by MC I meant to say Mega Cab! i had similar problems having my stuff shipped from Japan(USN). stereo equipment never did make it!! it just disappeared then found out courier service went out of business.

Two days would be a nice turn around time from the rail yard to the dealership... my buddies truck took over two weeks RED Bluff Dodge is about 150 miles or so from the yard in Benicia. my house is about 6 miles from Benicia... I could probably drive by and see it siting there.

Pete... even though mine made it off the railcar first, sounds like you will probably take delivery first! Hey did you ever know a guy name Will Longman in the "Silent Service"?.

Mike I served in the Surface Navy (Cruisers, a Battleship, a Destroyer and Command ships). I know we have a brother here that's a Submariner but it wasn't me. My hat's off to those guy's, one hell of a job! Having spent 17 of my 23 years at sea, I really enjoyed being able to grab my six string, a cigar and go topside at night and strum a tune while burning a madura gazing at the differing constellations of the seven seas.

One Christmas I got to look out the periscope at the Sea of Japan. That was cool.

Well... . we sure ate good!

Polaris, When you care enough to send the very best! (c. 1970, not talking snowmobiles here!)

It's Here !!

Just got a call from Red Bluff Dodge and my truck has arrived!Oo. Oo.

I will be driving up this afternoon to pick it up. (three hours each way).

Tommorow I will start with the aftermarket mods. . Leer 100XQ Truck Cap, bed rug and air compressor, air springs and air tank. I will post pics with before and after pics of the cap. . hope it does'nt take too much away from the looks.

65 days from time of order to delivery!

I will be very interested to hear your opinion and experience with the aftermarket items you mention. I'm thinking of the same truck cap, bedrug and air bags.

The other item I would like to know more about is a rear camera for the truck.

Thanks,

Brad

Well... I picked up my truck from the dealer. Very painless . . My final price was about 1600 less than the the final quote when I pulled the trigger. . they didnt try to sell any extra crap, warranties or anything I asked about extended warranties and was told to puchase one online cause they couldn't match the price. pretty straight up if you ask me, they didn't try to squeeze every dollar out of me like I have seen other dealers do.

After delivery I took a drive up hwy 299 about a 2500' climb in elevation to visit my cousin. The truck had awsome power climbing the grades. On the downhill grades I used the EB and down shifted... never had to use the brakes. Let my wife take over for the rest of the 45 mi trip and she was a little tentative at first but soon had the truck rolling long and using the jake, hardly touched the brakes. (I let her drive it this once, she doesn't know it yet but she isnt coming between me and the truck EVER again!!)

This morning we came back down the hill and FRI the 13 started.

I went to the TRUCK store to have my Leer, Bed Rug and air bgs installed.

Cap looks great, perfect color match but driver side window bulges out with gaps between glass and shell. its going back in to the shop in the AM.

Bed Rug looks great fits nice I'm happy.

Viair air compressor... the valve control was bad out of the box. . no one in town has a spare they may have to send it to me to install or I have to drive back up... not hapy

compressor came on and sounded like an air chisel was being used on my door... no rubber between mounts and chassis, felt the vibration right through the seat... . really not happy

air tank... mounted with drain on top... not happy

I have to stay another night in town so the truck experts can make everything right... not happy.

I will post before and after pics when I get home.

So far I love this truck!

Well I got everything worked out at the truck shop after 4 hours of waiting this morning. the shop was unable to locate a manifold for the air spring/compressor to replace the one that was faulty out of the box. The new one will be shipped to my house and I will install it myself instead of driving back 3 hrs to have them do it.

I thought it would be a good idea to have some after market stuff installed near the dealership before I brought it home... . NOT.

Brad, the compressor for the air bags is quite noisey... I did have one installed which is a bit larger than the one that normally comes with that system. The bed rug seems great easy on the knees. . we will see how it holds up. I think the Leer XQ100 looks good on the MegaCab... not many caps do IMHO. The window on the drivers side doesn't fit flush so I need to have the window replaced.

430 miles on the truck and the overhead says 16. 1 mpg. I varied speed from 55 up to 80mph on I 5. I will hand calculate on my next fill.

Mike, nice looking truck. :) It looks like you have the Mopar tube steps is that right? How do they look up close? I haven't been able to see a set up close but so far the pictures of them look good. I like how they are bracketed in the middle of the tubes and not the ends. I also like the shape of these rather than the 90 degree return bend at the ends.

I hear considerable discussion about adding air bags but have never done it to any of my trucks. What are the pro's and con's of adding them?
