2500 no spin axle question

I rotated the tires on my 08 2500 diesel, and noticed that when I turn one of the rear wheels the other one turns in the opposite direction. Ever since I can remember, to identify a limited slip/ posi-traction etc, the rear wheels turn in the same direction. My window sticker shows it should have a no slip axle. . is the 11. 5 rear dodge axle different? thanks

Posi Track only works when one of the wheels/axles start spinning and the other doesn't. It is a limited slip type setup. I am sure somone else will try to go into one of those long winded explanations after I have posted first. :-laf

The Trac-Rite isn't preloaded like the older Dana differentials... it acts like an open diff when there is no load on it.



There is really no way to "test" a Trac-Rite.

Burnout marks from each wheel is a good test.

I tested my track rite by placing about 5000 miles of treadlife on an empty country road! Not very cost effective, but fun... ... .....

Testing the Trac-Rite differential while the vehicle is lifted and turning one wheel by hand, the opposite wheel will turn in the opposite direction. This is normal.

If the Trac-Rite assembly has an internal failure it will lock axles 100% side to side.

To test the Trac-Rite process, raise vehicle on appropriate lift , place into gear and accelerate quickly (hard launch). A second technician will witness both wheels turning at the same speed at the start of the acceleration.

Another test for Trac-Rite is to slowly drive vehicle in an open area and completely turn wheels to one direction and accelerate hard. . The vehicle will experience tire hop or shudder. This is a normal

Unaware of the track tite fluid requirements I just changed myfront and rear diffs and at the suggestion of many past TDR posts I used mobil one 75-90 synthetic front and 75 -140 synthetic in the rear axle is this a potential for problems with the track rite?

I run 85w140 in mine and there is no difference... for what its worth...

OK mine has been making a noise for a while like a posi unit that requires the additive when i jack it up and spin the wheel both tires spin the same way like a posi is the carrier serviceable? Its cold here I dont want to work on it in the driveway :{ What type of socket do you use to service the rear wheel bearings?

Mine just sucks. It acts like an open diff most of the time... ... ... ... . it will only spin both tires on dry pavement. If I get into a situation like plowing snow or potentially being stuck it will only spin one back tire. My wifes hemi is the same way... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... garbage, period.

I don't think it makes a significant difference. If you read any of my posts I'm pro OEM products. I figure the OEM spends lots of time researching the products that are best for it's vehicles. I can't think of the last differential that was ruined from improper lubrication using OEM fluids.

If you have one wheel on ice and one wheel on traction, it will not hook up. To get it to hook up, just lightly depress the brake to add a torque load to the spinning side. Once the diff has some torque differential it will work properly. It is much easier that cussing at it, and works better!

Sag2, been there and done that. Dealer here says it's normal and they all do it... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... Shoulda kept my 97.

Does anybody know what or if there are any units like the "Tru Track" available for the front dif units in our trucks. AAM does not make one according to them and the last time I checked neither does "True Trac".
