Thinking about picking up a low mileage 2016 crew cab, lwb Limited. Not crazy about the rear coils. I have them on my 2015 2500 Hemi work truck and the ride is terrible on a good day. Any options to replace the factory coils with air available?

Well, there are at least 15 different rear springs available from factory for different setups, might you have the stiffest in it.

Sad thing is i didn't find a place yet were someone translated all those partnumbers into something usefull, a list of the OEM springs ratings would be awesome.

That didn't answer your question about airbags but i wanted to mention it in the hope that someone reads it here and could do that list.

The videos I have watched on the 2019s say they have gone to progressive-rate coils to improve the empty ride. It may be worth taking some measurements for an easy swap.

I have to agree on the ride. My coil sprung 2500 rides no better, and may be harsher than my leaf sprung '05. Plus, in the sand when empty it is prone to some serious axle tramp. It sure does carry the weight, though.

They used Progressive coils since 2014, if you look at the factory coils the wire diameter actually changes. If you are running enough pressure empty for the TPMS light to be off its going to ride harsh no matter what coils are in it.

There is a video, I think TFL or Mr Truck, with Rod Romain, chief engineer, stating they have gone from straight-rate coils to progressive coils. And I have driven thousands of miles with my TPMS light on.

Go to approx 4:38 mark.

Maybe it was a variation of coils or they changed to a more typical progressive coil but I work with the suspension on these trucks every day and have seen OEM progressive coils on a 14 2500 .

Have you checked with Kelderman? Air ride should be easy with a suspension setup like that. I wish the one tons had coils..........

^^^ I went with a 1 ton to avoid coils

Exactly... one of the three main reasons I went 3500.

I've never read of a rough ride with the coils.

Every 2500 complaint I've heard has to due with the stupid TPMS setting and an empty bed.

I test drove this used Limited and even though it rides better than my work 2500 Hemi, it's still bad. My 2014 2500 Longhorn had coils that rode very well so needless to say, I was surprised with my work truck and the used Limited riding so poorly. Very stiff and hard bounce on expansion joints in the roads........even worse on the frost heaves in the road. I'll check with Kelderman.

Are they all the same wheelbase?

The 2014 and 16 are the same configuration and the 16 rides noticeably worse (both CC LWB diesel) and the 2015 is a CC SWB Hemi and rides horrible.

I just checked this out, might be a couple pair in my future! I'm certain this is going to be a great option for me. To be fair, the 2500 Hemi carries a 325 gallon water tank every other day and it rides excellent when loaded with 2700 lbs. It is literally a kidney puncher without a large load in the bed.

Why not just install the Longhorn's Springs?
By partnumber, or just interchange them for a test ride?

Rear springs are so easy to change.

Because I live in Alaska and things like extra springs don't grow on trees here. :D I could simply order the Kelderman kit and fix my problems for the duration.
