Sams Club abd others won't mount LT tires on trailer wheels??

My 2004. 5 2500 carried my 36' Cedar Creek great after I added 2 full length leaf springs. Actually it carries the weight just as well as my 06' 3500 DRW. The real difference is my 2500 tires were just at the limit and I did not feel extremely safe with it over 65mph. The truck actually road better than my 06'. My 06' handles the load much-much more stable than did the 2004. 5 SRW. Actually no comparison. Anyone that tells you a single rear wheel truck does it just as good is lying or don't know better. :confused:
 
I would make some measurements of where you are trying to back the trailer.



If dually fenders are a tight fit, then the mirrors on either a single rear wheel or a dually are going to also be a tight fit.



As already suggested I would get some real world weight slips so you can see what your truck weighs and what the trailer weighs and how much pin weight the trailer puts on the truck bed.



I know full well single rear trucks can get the job done.



But for my own personal use I want something made for the load I am putting on it, and I accept the fact that means I am going to buy a dually and deal with a dually.
 
I have a dully, love it, and I can park it like a honda... . IE Im used to it now and its not an issue for backing or parking, just have to have the space to park it. Oh first day of owning it 3500 4x4, 6 speed, long bed, slt, big horn crew cab weighed in at 7200 lbs, and about 7/8 of a tank of fuel. Good luck, unless you really don't have the space I don't think you will regret it. Oh the GVW is 12,500 so room for you and 5300 lbs of your friends or 2. 65 tons ... . interesting how a 1 ton is actually a 2. 65 ton truck now :) interesting how marketing works
 
Having both a SB 2003 2wd 3500 & a 98 3500 DRW 4WD long bed, not even close when comes to stability. The 3500# 5'er Pin weight bottomed the overloads on the 2003 sitting still, but actually makes the 98 DRW level out ride "nice".



Go into a bumpy interstate turn @ 55-60 MPH, and the 2003 made me a bit nervous. I had aftermarket sway bars as well & helped a little.



HOWEVER, SB versus LB may also have contributed. It really felt more like tire sidewall flex than anything else.

I think it had more to do with the front supention on the 2wd. I had a 03 2500 2wd for a work truck and it was a handful at times and deffinatly not anywhere near as stable as the 4wd. We put sway bars on it and some spacers in the front to keep it off the bump stops since it rode stock about a 1/2inch off them and when you hit bumps it would bottom out and then the fun began.
 
I went from a 02 2500 6 spd to an 06 3500DRW 48RE and would never look back! Made the same 5300mi. trip with both trucks, same 32`,9000lb. travel trailer and the difference is well worth the money and the stability and safety are such a plus.

SOMETIMES CRAP just happens I to take very good care of my truck. I had tires with 50 % tread left on tires, left front blow out.

hit 2 cars very min damage to all involved. Talking with my insurance agent (allstate) after the fact. should there have been an injury or fatility the investigation would have warrented a weigh in of my truck and trailer. even if the accident was not my fault if I had excedded the weight limits of my truck I would have been in the wrong just like if I had been driving without a license.

of course no insurance paid. and I would have been open for liabilty from the other insurance company. I really am not trying to stir up the hornets nest just a different look.

Your p/u is paid for and it'll pull the Alfa; try 4x4ing with a dually. :) I towed a 34' and 36' Alfa, both needed axle flips, with a 2001 HO that had/has 10 ply tires. I believe the owner's manaul on the Alfas states top towing speed is 60mph.



The 2001 2500 6-spd 4x4 Quad has a tow weight of 13,050lbs and allegedly tested at 16,000lbs. The 3" wide rear leaf springs carried two cubic yards of top soil (4,000lbs+ ???) w/o engaging the overloads. Oo. Next time you see a F-250 check out the spring size difference.
