I've searched and seen a few threads on the dash cracking problem on the second generation trucks but, no way to tell the real numbers or how widespread. So, I figured let's do a poll. The poll is broken down into cold climate areas and hot climate areas. I can only post ten poll choices and I may not have covered all the issues with this, like interior colors, truck mods (frame/body flex), off-road use,etc... Maybe I need to start another thread with a poll on those additional items? Also wonder how many dashes have been replaced and cracked again?

Hmmm, not very many responses from the 2nd gen crowd so far. I guess this thing got buried yesterday by all the other posts.

Is there a way to have this come back to the top of the messages if someone only completes the poll and doesn't make a comment? Oo.

None of my trucks had cracks. Two had dash mats, two didn't (including the 97). I plan on a DashMat for the 97 soon enough. I do use a folding aluminum reflector screen during the summer. The reflector did build up enough heat to crack my winshield when I washed the truck... ... Dooahh! :( :eek:

As previously mentioned need a no cracks category. Also would be nice to see a final tally. Since there isn't a no crack category I would see the tally without lying. And I don't want to miss heaven just to see the results. :eek: :-laf

5 years in Texas and no cracks, or even hints of getting one in the near future. Remember, we don't even get to see the how the voting is coming since we cannot vote.

Also, the early 2nd Gen dashes--'94, '95 and I believe '96 had a different style dash that seems to be more crack resistant.

7 years in the hot California sun and cold arse winters and no cracks what so ever. Building a garage this year to spoil her. . :-laf the truck that is!

I live in the Sacramento, Caloifornia area, and it regularly passes 100*F most days here in the summer. I use two things to keep my dash from cracking:

* silvery mylar window shade

* carpet dash cover my dad got me for the truck's first Christmas, from Pep Boys or Auto Zone.

I also leave both windows down a good 2 - 3" all day and night during warmer/dry months to keep the pressure inside the cab from building up. It just amazes me how many stupid people there are where I work, who drive black or dark colored vehicles, roll every wiundow up tight as it goes, and do not use a sunshade in the windshield... ... and I work for a very large computer chip company, and with thousands of engineers... :eek:

Never cracked, hot climate, stays in the garage 90% of the time with only 28K miles. :-laf

My 1996 dually's dash never cracked - it spent 1 year in Ohio and the rest of its life in Texas.

Mine was fine until last year, when we were on vacation in Cape Cod and A/C went out. They cracked the dash all to h*** replacing the evap core. Oh and they will not help at all, neither will D/C :{

Voted for the cold and cracked but here it can be both. Hot and sunny and Cold and sunny.

Agreed. Colorado is hot in summer / cold in winter. Mine's cracked front to back just above the A/C contols. I think the windshield guy broke it and didn't tell me... :mad:
