What do the fuel fill hose and vent hose look like on a c-a-c truck? Dealer doesn't have parts, and didn't want to order one just to look at it, incase it wouldn't work the way I want it to.

I put a used alum. flatbed (unknown mfg. , no name on it) on in Aug. I think it had been on a Ford. Fueling the truck is a real PITA. I was able to hook the hoses up to the flatbed, but the OEM hoses that are used with a pickup truck dually box have several bends, possibly causing poor venting. The other problem is, the piece that the hose hooks to on the bed is pointing more to the rear, than more towards the tank. I can't hardly use a big nozzle at the truckstops, and I still can't usually even use the first click on the smaller auto-shutoff nozzles. Almost always wants to spit the fuel back onto the ground making a mess. #@$%!

Anyone have a pic? Dealer didn't have one, and tried some truck body dealers, and they did have anything either. Said they don't put many beds on Rams. The '03+ in particular.

Or, what size are the hoses? Been very, VERY busy and haven't been able to check.

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

Mine (if I remember right) just has two bends in it. One above the tank about 3" and the second about 6" back from the filler cap. It's about the same size as the radiator hoses, maybe a bit bigger. I dont have any pics, sorry.

Mines a real PITA to fill also. I cant use the big nozzles at all and then the smaller ones I am also stuck using the first click on the auto-shut off nozzles. And it doesn't help that the rub rail on the side of my flatbed is just above the fill hole. So it always dribbles fuel out on my boot.

The way I normaly do a flatbed is to pick up a tail light mounting bracket from NAPA. This is the single mount style for a round 3" light. Then I will measure the tube size on the steel part of the fuel line. After I get that measurement I will head down to the local muffler shop and pick up the right size tube and have them put the bends I need for a straight shot into the tank. Then I cut and weld as needed. With the filler neck off the truck of course.

My Eby bed has the fill hole built into the side rail. The rub rail tapers in and is welded to the side on either side of the recessed fill cap. I can use the big pump but I keep it on low speed with a paper towel wrapped around in case it spits back. If I use the regular size nozzle, I need to hold it or strap it to the side and it still tends to spit back. While I never compared mine to stock or the factory flatbed setup, it looks like original equipment with the vent and all. If you can wait until Thanksgiving, I will ask my stepson to take some pics and email them to you. I don't have a digital camera.

My fill hole is also in the side rail. I'll have to borrow a digital camera to get a pic or two of mine.

QRTRHRS- If you could get pics, that would be great. I've waited this long, a few more days won't matter.

4x4 block

As a temporary solution, try carrying a short section of wooden 4x4 in the truck with you. park the rear wheels on the fill-up side on top of the 4x4 and pump away. It usually works well enough to go a few clicks in on the big pumps. I love that dodges can fill of the real pump and pstrokes need to use the slow one. btw Philip's idea sounds like a great way to go in the longrun.

Thanks for the pics. :) That setup is a bit different than mine. Looks like the cap sits at a bit of an angle too. My cap is close square to the side of the bed. Need to get a funnel for adding fuel additive. Just wants to come back out at me when I tried to put some in since the bed went on.

I think I'll try and modify mine. Need to check the pickup box filler looks like, to compare it. For $150, I can come up with something.

I could use a bit more angle but I can tilt an additive bottle enough to get it all in. I save old gas additive bottles to reuse for adding fuel additives. Eby beds mount low unless it is the dump model.

c-a-c fuel inlet

bryan,

I saw an old trucks tv show that had a bed floor mounted door opening to the fuel cap. I e-mailed them today to ask where they can be bought. The idea may have merit even if they don't answer. Instead of coming out from the frame, It could be turned up to the bottom of the bed where a door could be fashioned for entry. :-{} Or a school bus wreck could donate that section to be mounted again the the bed bottom. Maybe hang a door to the bed side rail opening like a regular bed opening:D .

I like the bed floor opening. The vent would work better, stronger gravity pull. Although, you will always get the fuel burp in the cold. Plus the power service adding would be easier to do. Oo.

Good luck,

Howdy Wayne.

That thought has crossed my mind. :)

I have seen several truck were setup that way. Where they mounted them though, you would want an empty bed. They had them come up around the G/N hitch area.
