Hey gang...

I've spent an hour or more strolling thru the "Search" function trying to understand what it takes to put a Second Generation Cummins into our First Gen trucks.

I'm still worried about possible internal engine damage (Rod Bearings) after pumping 10+ quarts of 15W40 unnoticed onto the pavement thru a blown Oil Pressure Sending Unit last week. A Squealing Turbo was my first warning sign! Holy Smokes Batman!!!

Back on Subject: If I have to put a Cummins into the Gurl... . It's going to be a P7100 Injector Pump'ed Engine. :D

I recall from past post, issues with Fan Shroud location and Throttle Cable Installation during the engine swap. What other small details & fixes am I missing?

Can anyone enlighten me further? I didn't find any Golden Nuggets using "Search"!

(Besides... . A bunch of silly postings by me in my Cummins Infancy! The TDR Brotherhood sure are some patient folks to answer many of those questions!)

KEENO :D

Fan shroud is not a problem. Take the idler assembly off the first gen and put it on the second gen motor. It works for a 24valve at least. With both motors there you should be able to mix and match. Throttle cable switches also.

RonA... so you definitely need the whole throttle cable setup including the bracket or what? I think I have almost all the parts needed right now. But I am curious about the throttle cable setup.

All you need is a 96 or so model throttle cable and the bracket that it attaches to on the pump. I took a picture of the bracket and put it in my readers rigs. turned out fuzzy. camera didn't like taking pictures in the dark. The throttle cable hooks right up to the firewall and pedal. First gen motor mounts work fine. I broke a set of motor mounts after only about 5k miles. I figured it would be a problem. The second set has been fine ever since (about 22k miles). Maybe if you go real high hp they would be a problem. I'm medium hp and they are fine.

Thanks I snagged your picture. I have a second gen throttle cable not sure what year it is. Bracket may be a junkyard item. Although I'll check with Chrysler this week.

If you need any specific pictures let me know. They usually come out pretty clear as long as it is daylight.

ok great, thanks

I have a throttle cable here. Part #53031594 303 on it. Are all the same for the second gen. Accept for maybe manual or auto? I could post a pic of it tomorrow.
