Hello all,

I am going to do the 3rd Gen front brake upgrade on my truck in the next few weeks and was wondering if the same upgrade can be done on the rear?

Any input?

Thanks,

Brian

If you can, take pictures and keep track of your part numbers. I'm sure many here would like to do the same thing. Good luck.

Second gen brake upgrades...

I've converted mine to third gen a few months ago on the rear. Works nice if you have the third gen rims or better... . currently finishing up on the front. Taking pictures too.

However (comma), I did go from smaller rear oem disk brakes to the larger that the third gen has...

On the rear Dana 80 in my 1997 with disc, my parts store did make a mistake of sending me 2008 caliper/bracket kit. When I assembled everything, I noticed that I could use the 2003+ rotors and caliper kit if I had 17" rims. They are a direct bolt on. The caliper and pads were half way off the factory 2002 rotors.

I just sent the brackets back with old calipers as core and used the 2008 calipers on the old bracket. Now I have 2008 calipers on a 1997 truck ;)

Coulda just put 2008 rotors on it and had it all... ..... if ya had the rims.

Rims are actually pretty easy to come by as take-offs from the tire/specialty shops, or as dealer take-offs, cuz so many folks out there gotta have the bigger, better, faster, shiny'r aftermarket stuff. . I got four forged aluminum 2006 rims with Goodrich tires that had less then 10K on them for around 400. 00 locally a few years back and the tires balanced great and still don't require replacement yet. They were too good to get rid of, and when they wear out I may go a different direction...

I't was also REALLY nice to be rid of the crappy cast aluminum oem rims that I could NEVER keep balanced and always made me think that it was normal to have everything blurry in my mirrors.....
