Apology accepted! The complete gas thing is starting to effect my brain cells. Kinda like the people that think the hybred cars are cheaper to run. Ya gotta plug them in somewhere and that in itself will cost you on your electric bill. then there is the bummer when the batteries fail and you get the bill for the replacement. Wooooo baby! That has gotta be some big bucks! (if you can find a Pep Boys that carries them when you are on vacation somewhere in Death Valley) The guy next door just bought one of those Ford mini Explorers, (i cant remember the name they call it). Anyway, they are jumping up and down that they just spent $35k for a slug (what a turd, I drove it I would guess that any Yugo on the road will smoke the doors off it) that will on a good day get about 30 mpg. Big whoop! when the gas gouge hit, I went out and bought a 1995 Toyota Camry with 100k on it. Auto/Air PRIMO COND and one owner, really nice to drive, not to mention I can feel good about letting junior drive it and not have to give the keys to my Corvette on date night!. Well folks, Im pulling 29 mpg IN TOWN and 35+ mpg on the highway for a complete Toyota (made in the USA) gasser and only shelled out $2500. >>> Why on earth would anyone go out and buy one of throw away electric things (that only runs on electricty at some speeds) for $35k when you can keep your Hummers and Cummins and buy a spare ride to run to and from the store for only $2500? Also, it only added another $100 every 6 months to my insurance! Oo. Oo. Oo. :-laf I am interested in the veggie oil from Costco at $3 a gallon. Will it really work in the Cummins? I would much rather pay the farmers than the ragheads for the fuel in my CTD!!!! :D

Knock that off!

They are NOT "Ragheads" - those are SHEETS they use to wrap their heads, and the PROPER term is:

SHEETHEADS!

:D :D :D

I believe like whale oil 1 day big oil and yes Cleary the republican big biz politicians will be looking for another way to squeeze the country. The reason there have been no new refinerys built is that our government( yep both sides) has looked the other way instead of demanding more capacity. Don't give me the "not here" song and dance, the supreme court says you can use eminent domain for a mall then you sure can use it for our oil needs. Are the Pres. and the vice getting rich? DA and probably most of congress as well but until we all stand together and say enough they will not stop. Write letters, call, get petitions, talk to truckers, email talk shows, but like Karl Rove it probably will go nowhere :( Maybe I will just ask for more vaseline

Just Fred

I thought the proper term was Camel Jockey  and if you think thats wrong to say i really don't care, we are called just as worse by them so we are even.

I agree strip malls are not a neccessity, we as americans since the 80's have been spoiled with useless junk. Why do you think all the foreign goods are coming in, strip malls are going up like pple drilling water wells, and we need these things, you couldn't get me within 50 miles of one, thank GOD i live where i live.

Just my opinion on the subject and anyone that believes in the gov't system  most pple vote because its what generation after generation has done, status quo. . sorry i don't ride that boat... Okay now time to go take care of varmints. .

Oo. it runs fine... ... ... Oo.

Canola Oil

I saw this last week on a message board:

"You could make 'C20'. Use 20% virgin canola from Costco for $3/g with petrodiesel. The viscosity will be thinner than b100, so it will be safe for all engines. "

I have not tried it yet. It looks like it says not to go more than 20% Canola?

Why are there so many whiners here on TDR regarding the price of diesel. You people should have all plopped down $1000. 00 on oil futures at the beginning of the Iraq war, you would have turned over a $5000. 00 profit. Think of how much fuel $5000. 00 could buy when factoring in the price of diesel at the beginning of the war...compared to now. Your profit could have offset the rise in prices for the next 3 years, at least. You all could be laughing at these prices now had you had a little foresight.

Stock tip here: Buy heating oil futures, now.

Spoken like a true Texas oil man

By the way, nice handle sleeze :-laf :-laf :-laf

Ya no shat... How much oil and gas is being shipped out of the US??? That part of the eqauation is always left out of the lack of refining debate.

as high as it is I still have to smile when I pull into work knowing that the big block chevy and that V-10 ford that I park between both get about half the milage I get and have alot less power... I'll pay the extra 15 cents or so for double the milage... . It does suck thou, it's $2. 55 to $2. 70 here in south-western PA... I try to ride the bike or drive the beater as much as possible... .

wonder how many people out there are going to start "running red"... It's crossed my mind... there is a tank at work I could fill up from... :D

Tanked up today (8/17)... Mobil, NJ4 west, Hackensack NJ

87 - $2. 599

89 - $2. 699

93 - $2. 799

diesel - $2. 499

(ducking the rocks thrown from California)

As Rusty said, oil is a commodity and it is more expensive right now because there is more DEMAND for it while the SUPPLY hasn't changed all that much. Just like every other supply-demand scenario, the market sets the price.

The American consumer likes to blame the oil companies because they are an easy target, but the true culprit is - the American consumer. Over the last 10-15 years, we have bought more and more and more foreign manufactured goods, particularly from China. Every factory built in China, every dollar in trade that goes her way, builds the Chinese economy. They have a billion people and a rising economy, and that leads to increased demand for energy. By helping build the Chinese economy, we have made generated a new competitor for fixed resources.

No where for the prices to go but up, and every time you buy Chinese goods you are helping jack up fuel prices a little bit more. Ain't the global economy wonderful? :D

Roger that... Here in Cali,,,, . 18 cents state and . 18 cents Federal tax per gallon. They should make the oil companies pay that.....

And if you didn't know it you're paying sales tax on those state and federal taxes!!! :--)

Rusty,,, in your 57 years,,, how much refined petrol from good o'l USA is currently being shipped abroad? How many ships depart from our shores,,, as they GOUGE the little guy???????????????????????????????????????????

not sure what the taxes are here haven't checked in several years but last count i had was 17cents state and 20+ in federal. I like they way they tax me on what i eat, if not for the food tax i might feel better about the whole thing, but of course our gov't wonderful gov't lets tax every D@%$ thing not once but 2-3 times. Oo.

I would have to say that one day they will get their just comings to them.

...

MIKE ELLIS:Did we really have a choice to buy much anything else? when our government shipped out most of our jobs to China anyway? what else was on our shelves to buy? EVERYTHING is made over there. . so ultimately it stems from the Govnt, NOT the consumer  Of course i'd buy American over China. . when companies like Wal Mart get big , {like Bush wants} we get the shaft because they buy cheap. . and sell us Chinese goods... supply/demand. . we have buried ourselves. :(

As I said on the other thread, I've spent 57-1/2 years in the oil industry, so what exactly qualifies you to throw terms like "bullcrap" and "lame brain" at me? I await your curriculum vitae.

Rusty
But your profile says you were born in 12/20/47 Rusty -----that would make you about 57-1/2 or so years old . Just how many years have you worked in the oil industry or did you just pop out with a silver cresent wrinch in you hand .

I agree with Cumminzpowr, not so much that we the pple as our gov't has decided to play god with our livelyhood and put us in this situation, wished things were kind of like the 60-70's i think its time for a major protest on DC. I know they are wanting to play god since the recent *Oh were going to change the daylight savings time* I ask Why? Friggin Morons, i disagree its BS.

AS as for the gas situation, i think that all service stations should shut down at say 10pm no gas after 10pm, that would for sure throw a added wrench into the mix. Oo. That would cut down on excess running and these pple that have this oh i don't care if it goes to 3 or 4 bucks a gallon im going to run around anyway attitude, thats those "spoon fed, I gotta have it on a silver platter pple"
