3.42 GEAR dually

Just had my truck in sig inspected and was informed and shown that both drivelines need to be rebuilt. The local Les Schwab does not do this. They gave me a guy and I contacted him and he told me they usually don't last more than 120K. told it would be at least $1200 min to do the job. What I want to know is can I get a dually in 3.42 gears or do they only come in SRW. This will be my daily driver as I do not like driving my 300. Thanks for the input.

Standard gears in a new dually is 3.42. The 3.73 and 4.10 are an option

The truck in my Signature has the 3.73's and I love them...A good compromise!!! Towed from Greenville SC to Orlando Fla and back this last weekend.. Ran Back roads all the way--NO interstate and got 12.5 MPG by the pencil.. Have got up to 18 MPG running MTY to PA and back on I-77 and I-81...

Just traded mine in on a 15DRW at AutoNation in Seattle. Towed my 36' MobileSuites great. ordered a 16 39' MS so ordered a bigger truck!

The 11 has 65K and I serviced the heck out of it top to bottom. It was a great truck!

Stay away from 3:42's, I have that in my 2014 and it pings, lugs, and the trans seems not to like them. At 1250 RPM at 50MPH and try to excellerate, it's the worst. A 5.9/6.7 sweet spot is 17-1900 RPM, 1250 is too low, and it lets you know. 3:73 is the lowest you should go, but for serious towing 4:10 is recommended.

My 2011 has 3.73, not a bad compromise. and it is for sale . With the double OD in the auto, still low rpms in 6th.

your 02' has DANA axles to start with. 2003 and up have AAM. I'm sure you can get 3:42 in DANA but I'm not positive..... The comment made by the possible repair shop, 120K is the life expectancy ???? I have run Amsoil in most of my DANA's and AMM axles. None have ever come close to going out, 1997 DANA 80 had 130K when sold...DANA 70, well thats a different story....

Yeah, normally when one refers to a driveline, they're referring to driveshafts. The unjoints in these could definitely need replacing at or before that many miles. For that price though it does sound like he's talking about gears, but that sounds like BS to me. If it is just drivelines, that too is BS because 1350 ujoints (the AAM will be similar size, but may not be exactly 1350 as that's typically Dana 1-ton gear) are only about $25-$30 a piece. For that price, that would be a heckuva lot of labor to rebuild the shafts.

"new" to me truck.

I am now confirming I got a new to me Truck. It is a '13 LL crew cab long bed. 5th wheel prep and 3.73 gears. Got a good deal on it. Was able to get rid of old truck and 300. Drove it home tonight and is a much better ride. No more loud exhaust. Also has the Aisin transmission. That is what I was looking for. CPO (certified pre owned) and only has 16k on the odo. White exterior. pics will be on a diff post. Thanks for all the awesome responses and I look forward to a better truck and long term reliability. I also have the aux switches as well. Need to read up and do some more figuring.

Just have to figure out what is wrong with the marker lights. even though it is under warranty. Are these on separate fuses for the marker lights?

Bob V,when someone says "DRIVELINE" and $1200 in the same sentence, if its anything other then the front and rear gear sets in the AXLE housing, somebody is getting screwed. If its "U-joints" in the driveshafts, thats too much $ for those items too.

I was assuming he needs new slip yokes, not just new u-joints, so a rebuilt drivelines, and at that the price was still too high. Who ever the person who does them doesn't know much if he said drivelines, or axles, only last 120,000 miles.

I couldn't imagine BOTH drivelines going bad at the same time.
