Is 3. 55 used with Limited Slip and 3. 54 not or are they the same? When specing out truck on the DC net site will not accept choice of 3. 54 LS only 4. 10 LS. No choice offered for 3. 55 which might explain several comments about 3. 54 LS not being available with diesel. I suspect that all are 3. 55 not 3. 54.

The gear ratio is actually 3. 54:1, NOT 3. 55:1. I counted the ring gear and pinion gear teeth when I installed my Mag-Hytec differential cover on my Dana 70. There are 46 ring gear teeth, 13 pinion gear teeth which equals 3. 5384615:1

The 3. 54 -vs- 3. 55 debate has been going on even before the creation of this website as well as the CDW website.

My sticker in glove box states it is a 3. 55 LS. My build date was 3/2000. Still believe that 3. 54 is used on certain models but 3. 55 LS is for diesel in 2001.

Hard to argue with anyone that has counted the gear teeth #ad
, but wonder what year model you have?

Ordered a 3. 54 and came with a sticker under the hood with 3. 55. Wish it was 3. 72 or 3. 73 or 3. 74 #ad

This subject has been around the block a few times if you want to search on 3. 55 or 3. 54.

Dieseldumb, think about what you were asking... I stated I had a Dana 70 ('98. 5). The Dana 70 is only used on automatic equipped 2500s. The manual equipped 2500s as well as all 3500s use the Dana 80 axle. There is no 3. 55:1 axle ratio.

Just like John said... 3. 54 3. 54 3. 54 3. 54 3. 54 3. 54 3. 54 3. 54!!!!
Dana's gear ratio is a 3. 54 not 3. 55! The only reason why some of you(and I) see a tag that reads 3. 55 on your glove box or under the hood,is because the tags are typed out on a computer. Dodge does offer a 3. 55,but it's on 1/2 ton trucks. I can see where an uncaring computer operator makes the mistake.

I tried to post this earlier but changed my email address and it messed up my password for a while.

This is my understanding. The 3. 55 rearend exists but only available on the 1500's. For the 2500 and 3500, they get the 3. 54 which is heavier duty due to the power available (Cummins) and the extra weight of the larger trucks (2500's and 3500's). They're basically same gear ratio for similarity between drivetrain dynamics for 1500's vs 2500's & 3500's (engr decision)

As for not being able to select the 3. 54 LS, I heard you couldn't get the LS with the 3. 54 any longer, the only way you could get the LS was to go with the 4. 10's. That's what I heard anyway. If that's true, I'm glad I was one of the last ones to get the 3. 54 LS! #ad

JyRO, I don't know, if I had it to do all over again I would probably order the 4. 10 axle ratio. Personally, I would prefer a 3. 90:1 axle ratio.

I have a 2001. 5 with 4 wheel disks and I ordered and got a 3. 54 LSD with it. I think you just have to have a dealer that knows how to put it in. Someone told me that as soon as you pick the limited slip, it automaticly puts in 4. 10. The dealer has to go back in and delete the 4. 10 option but the LSD will stay.

I just drove a 2001 3500 eth/dee package yesterday with a build date of 08/00, it has the disc brakes. When I opened the glove box to see the gear ratio it had a 3. 54lsd. Go figure.

Intensely Blue:
You are exactly right. I had a heck of a time getting the 3. 54 LS on mine. I finally had to have someone at DC tell my dealer how to order it - exactly the way you said.
