Just got done plumbing my 4600 carter pusher as close to the tank as possible. Now I burie the gauge to 30 at startup then It comes down to 25-27 cruising and 22-24 WOT. Is this bad shouldn't it only be 22 lbs 15+7. Could there be a problem with my vp if it isn't bypassing the excess pressure. Don't want to buy a vp while trying to save it!
 
I would put a regulator on there, keep it between 18 and 20...





I see you have a TDI, my wife just bought an 06 a month ago, LOVE IT!!!!

It's so cool to fill it up and see 750 miles to empty :D



Just put a VA box on it also, takes a lot of the lag out between shifts!

I can go about 2500 miles on a fill up with my truck thanks to my Transfer Flow... :D



As for the VW... get yourself a Van Aaken for that baby... I get about 55 mpg since I added mine to my 2001 5 speed.

30+ will be fine. BUT, if your gauge is mechanical it might not be. The typical gauge will accept 10% more than their sweep before being overpressured, which results in inaccurate readings. So, in your case, if you have more than 33psi, you may have bent the internals and it may be inaccurate.
 
Maybe they gave you a Carter 4601 by accident. The 4601 is an 18 PSI pump. What color is it, black or silver. The Summit Racing website shows the 4600 as being silver and the 4601 as being black.

yep im down to sometimes 14 sometimes 25 and once it comes up it stays no amount of throttle can pull it down :{



Also I finally slipped the clutch that mortal time so anything but 1/4 throttle and rpms jump :{ I guess the next move is FE or DD on a ETH is a DD really needed say after many miles and a hotrodVP or is it an upgrade out of drivability and peace of mind?



Right now im running my new M4 EDMS and a Dia blow power-puck with stock ecm, The catcher would be nerve racking/supersmoky without a proper charger and a clutch to challenge ;)

I have the Dodge and Cummins manuals and they indicate the VP44 has a pop off valve that protects over 30 psi. good to go
 
I THOUGHT I was running super high pressure, but it turns out it only goes way up when the gauge light is turned on. I must have a short or something, because with the lights off, I run around 20 psi. I have a FASS pump.

I talked to Lawrence at DD saturday night, since he is the only guy i know with R&D data on the vp44 pump , he said too much pressure at the inlet of the vp44 pump can actually cause more wear to the vp44 pump.

Remember the higher the pressure the less the flow, i am still having a hard time getting used to that.

What is the verdict GOOD or BAD?
 
I've also read that fp up to 30psi is helpful for HP-- like a couple more.


I used to have a big fear of higher FP in these trucks, but since so many people have wracked up lots of trouble-free miles with 25-30psi, I'm willing to entertain the idea.
