Taking a survey... ... on this tire wheel combo... .

I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts/personal experience. Do you think this tire/wheel combo will fit or "hit"?

Thanks,

Gill

That'll be close, what is the backspacing on your stock '97 wheels? On my '01 wheels the backspacing is just over 6" and a 315 will rub the control arm at full lock. With your new wheels that nearly 1" difference might be enough to clear the control arm, but may contact the rear of the front fender while turning, without adding a taller coil, the D25's for example.

Rob

EDIT, you didnt state what the width of the new wheel is, that will play a roll in fittment. For example, I have 315/70/17's on 17x10 wheels, with 4. 5" backspacing, I have no rubbing anywhere, ever. However, I don't think you can get away with a 10" wide wheel with 315's without a lift of more than the D25's give, mine has the D25's, and a 3" body-lift.

Thanks for the words... thats what I need. The rims are 8. 5" wide. The whole package comes off a stock H2 hummer. Just looking for a non-traditional way (sp less $)to get 35" tires on my truck.

Pretty sure I would only have minor fender rub issues at worst... . my real concern was with that much back spacing causing the rims to rub on the steering gear/control arms etc.

Sounds like this package might work... especially if I were to fine tune the fit with some spacers.

Thanks again,

Gill

Remember that the H2 wheels will need to be modified to fit on the Dodge Ram. The center hole needs to be opened up a little. :)

Gill, don't get confused with the back spacing measurement, the less the spacing, the more the wheel will stick out of the wheel well, if the wheel in question has less back spacing than the stocker, the new wheel will stick out further, and may create a fender rubbing issue.

Chip... sounds like you have some experience/knowledge regarding my little adventure here... . ?

Are we talking machine work here or a round file in the driveway? Do you know of anyone else who's done this?

Rob, ya know, I confess I haven't actually measured my '97 wheels but I was under the impression the stock back spacing was 4. 5". The H2 rims I'm looking at have 5 9/16". . which, check me here... . should actually "draw" the tire/wheel closer to the steering gear... yes?... I've installed the occasional distributor 180 deg out so make sure I'm not making the same mistake here :)

jrobinson,

I'll double check with the seller of the wheels... he's advertising 8 lug on a 6. 5" bolt pattern... . I let you know what I find out... .

thanks to everyone!

Semper knowledge!

If those measurments are correct, then yes.

Good luck, Rob

Jared
I couldn't tell you what chassis the H2 is built off of but yes, they do use eight lug wheels that are the correct bolt pattern for our Dodges. The problem is the ceter bore needs to be machined out. The center bore on our Dodges are 4. 75" and the center bore on the H2 is 4. 5". I brought another thread to the top over in the non-engine product forum that discussed the H2 wheels on the Ram. Check it out... ... https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=89160

Good Luck. :)
