Ill get some paper targets Pard we been messing around most of the afternoon. As soon as I shot it (first round of this batch) FIL/BIL and smith said that sounded sweet!!!! shot 2 more and couldn't tell on steel how big the spread. But its close VERY close. Preacher and Wife came over for family BBQ he took a shot at it. The look on his face was PRICELESS he gave it back and said he'd Pray for my safety :-laf At 104. 3 gr of powder its a hungry rascal for sure.

that`s where I started with my weatherby accumark, the final load was 106 gr of 7828, 250 nosler partition MOLLY coated bullets, cci magnum primer, and same oal. 3120 fps, with no cratering of primer or case head expansion. the 104 gr load was 2" at 100 yds, and groups got tighter every 1/2 gr of powder `till I hit 106 gr and the group was 3/4" at 100 yds. good enuf for any thing these feeble eyes can see. I love this gun !!!!

I love that moly coating also. However, I do live in a dry climate. There are reports of molybdenum disulfide residue in the bore, creating sulfuric acid compounds when in contact with moisture or high humidity conditions. Stainless Steel barrels are extremely vulnerable to sulfuric acid. Make sure you clean your bore thoroughly after shooting. Season the barrel before hunting so the bore is pre fouled. Just some tips from my experience with moly coated bullets.

Have fun!

Been doing that very stuff for the last 30 years that I`ve been using molly coated bullets in all my guns. it keeps the guns shooting tight groups, and collecting deer and elk. I think BIG will love his ELK SLAYER !! :-laf :-laf when it starts SLAYING !!

I'm not a newby either;). However, this is BIGS second go-round with his . 338/378. Burnt the barrel out on the first!

GregH

Im hurting after a shooting secession for sure with this thing. The new barrel on this one didn't seem to like the max loads and most that I have had didn't!! Its just down a grain or so form the last barrel that was on the gun. I really dont know what this will shoot for groups at 100 yards Ive never been that close to a target. It was funny that all the guys standing around said it sounded sweet. Greg one time wrote about the harmonics the other rounds just sounded ruffffffff when they went off but this load sounded crisp and clear to the ear and the recoil was smooth and not a KICK it just rolled back into the shoulder. I dont know maybe I was hallucinating from the butt kicking that it was giving me.

No laughing Greg and HH I was tired the wife had no mercy on me in the garden plowing harrowing disc work. She's nuts at times

PS YOU DONT SEE THAT FLINCH IN THE UPPER LEFT :-laf

Ya real close I didn't have anyway of mounting it to the 600 stand so I built a home made stand and put it on flat land so it would stand. About 550 maybe I didn't range it.

BIG, I see vertical stringing. That could be your position on the rest! Make sure you dont have the sling swivel studs hung up on the rest bags.

What is the measurement of the 3? Width and height?

GregH

My sand bag rest is kind of a mess but its going to get better ( the group) I have no idea of the measurement the target is one that Jason had when he plays around its a silhouette of a man. You have an idea about the size of the X ring? Im not thru working on it I think I can get some more out of it.

BIG! Yes, I believe you can. Inconsistent bag position will give those fliers and may be the culprit on the one way up and out to the left.

I know you dont want to burn the barrel out shooting groups. However a better rest may cure the fliers! That being said! I see dead Elk in your future:-laf:DOo.

GHARM, if I recall correctly, the X is 4"x6", so that is an excellent group when you go outside 400... . aside the "fouler!!" :D Looks like that load will work well... As a side thought, BIG, that load may be the charmer, but that barrel may also loosen up and "break-in", making more velocity and taking a hotter load after 60-150 rounds, depending on who made it... . I usually can go up a grain or two on my match rifles after I get all my brass fireformed and get my loads worked up... . And those are smaller cartridges, so..... As for being punch drunk, BIG, don't worry. A 450BC class bull elk running at 200 yards will sober you up!!!! Oo.

Ya buddy I didn't know how big the X was on the target but seemed pretty good for a used up Farmer Big today (that was the costume of the day) I really dont care if I could get anymore FPS out of the round. A 250gr slug at a little over 3000FPS has got to be like stepping out in front of a freight train when it connects. :-laf

BIG, The advantage of the larger cases is MORE POWDER:-laf!

More Powder means MORE VELOCITYOo. .

More velocity means MORE POWER and Flatter TRAJECTORY:-laf:D

(Tim, the Tool man Taylor Laugh, fits in here about now, Ha Ha )

GregH

I got a grip on that equation G MAN :-laf but still dont feel that the group is all that great. Better than some worse than others I guess. Still more work because at 1K it would have been WAY off
