Hi guys.

I have a 2007 Cummins 4 door, dual rear wheel Ram. In 2007 (an possibly 2006) there was a 3500 and a 3500 Heavy duty. the 5th digit in my Vin number is an X, which suggests it is just the 3500. Does anyone know what the difference is?

Regards

g_dog1,I could be wrong but I think with the intro of the 6. 7 they added the heavy duty next to the 2500 and 3500 emblem(2500s and 3500s are heavy duty pickups) but they could of started earlier.

You probably would get more replies if this was posted in third generation forum.

Thanks Bill. So Basically in 2007 on the OBDII reader when it is asking if the truck is HD or not, basically is asking if it has the 5. 9L or 6. 7L?

That could be.

PS. How do I move the thread to the 3rd generation forum?

I don't think there is a difference.

But they all have the same frame, brakes, front suspension. The rear suspension is really all that is different on a 2500 vs 3500 SRW vs 3500 DRW, and even then it's not much.

Maybe its referrring to the C&C models?

As far as 2006 vs 2007 does your truck have the red/black Ram 3500 logo or the silver one lower on the door?

EDIT: As for the 5th digit my 06 service manual states "X" is a 3500 4x4, there is no other option for 3500 4x4 on 06, so just a guess but I would say your truck is an 07, and the other 3500 option is a C&C.

I stated the "Heavy Duty" in the wrong place its on the tail gate, the emblem with the squares on the door is below the 2500/3500 emblems and I could be wrong about that also. ;)

g_dog1 a Moderator can move it or you can copy you post and paste it to a new post in the 3rd generation forum.

Thanks for the help guys. It was just a curiosity thing. The front of my truck has an emblem that says "Ram 3500 Heavy Duty", and there is a chrome "C".

Not worried about it. My truck is big and I love it.

That's what I think is going on.

I find it somewhat ironic that 3/4 and 1-ton trucks are badged "Heavy Duty" when they are actually light duty vehicles. I've always thought the label "heavier duty" would make more sense (as in, heavier duty than most light duty vehicles. "

Or maybe, "Light Heavy Duty?" :-laf

It's an interesting commentary on psychology and marketing. Don't get me started on "Super Duty" and the need a certain manufacturer has to write it all over their trucks.
