Fogzilla!

Hey Rammers,

The 9005's have been in my fogs for about a week. What a difference! The fogs are BRIGHTER than my low beams! I took one of my buddies out for a night drive and he kept mumbling "FOGZILLA"! I think I was the first to do this and therefore I claim naming rights to the mod, and I officially select FOGZILLA!

Whether you get harnesses from us (plug and play, no cutting or altering wires of truck, can be converted to stock any time), or choose to cut off the stock 9006 plugs (and replace them with 9005 plugs), you GOTTA do this mod!

I am taking a long road trip for the holidays and can't wait to exercise my lights on the open highway. Will keep you posted.

Respectfully submitted,

P. S. Be careful with fog light aim! When I got my truck (April) I raised the aim of the fogs as they were pointing into the ground. With Fogzilla, I lowered them just a tad to insure I am not blinding other drivers.

I got no complaints about my low beams or fogs, but the high beams are pathetic! My Tundra's high beams are twice as bright! Is there a brighter high beam lamp (not blue!) that will not put a strain on switches and wiring?

So that answers my question about the bright box keeping the fogs on while switching off of high beam. IMO a high beam lamp is not a good idea for use with oncoming traffic. I think its a great mod but should be turned off if not to keep from annoying the oncoming traffic to keep the local highway patrol off your back. Great mod those fogzilla's for sure Oo.

Hey Joel... since these are high beams I was wondering if your bright box will turn "off" the fogs when clicking down off of high beams? On coming traffic might not appreciate the high beams, I know I wouldn't.

Matt, I'll try to specifically answer your question. Yes, the Bright box does turn your fogs on and off with the high beams under normal operation. The exception to this is if you're choosing to drive with your fog lights on all the time, ie, switch pulled out. If you don't pull the switch out the fogs will come and go with the high beams.

9005 bulbs

Just some info on 9005 bulbs . . .

For the last few years (at least two) GM HAS used the 9005 bulb in a low beam application in the Yukon Denali trucks. I am sure you have seen these trucks with the distinctive "fisheye" low beam headlight. Tells you a lot about acceptable lumen output and bulb life.

From this, I conclude that the Fogzilla mod with proper aiming of the fogs should not blind other drivers. If you exercise responsibility, I do not think you will ever have a problem with law enforcement. However, if you choose to high beam people at unacceptable times, you will get pulled over, even with a stock headlight system.

Thanks Scott for clarifying that, in that case it makes the fogzilla mod even better when used with a bright box.

Easy Joel, I realize that... its just that I can see people doing this mod and leaving them on just cuz they are in a fog location yet they are now a high beam.

Looks like the best of both worlds is a complete kit with bright box.

the plug would not go into the bulb stock

had to shave a little corner out of the smallest tab on the bulb to allow it to twist into the housing ...

then reached in the female receptacle on the bulbs and shaved the two little raised guides

30 seconds a bulb with a razor knife ... the bulb seals perfectly into the housing and the plug seals perfectly into the bulb ...

This is absolutely worth the 5 minutes it took total to install ...

if a bulb burns out later i may just solder a 9005 plug onto the factory wiring ...

but this way if i have any problems i can just stick the stock bulbs back in

probably one of those lifelong "temporary" deals that those of us who like to tinker are so famous for

sorry CLAYTON no digital camera

don't understand headlight question

i just shaved the 9005's with a razor knife so they would fit in place of the 9006's in the foglights

In response to scottmcd’s post on driving lights, we do have a special Brite Box that has an extra driving light output. I have one of these in my truck as I am hoping Santa gives me a set of driving lamps!

In response to ceaman’s post, we are offering a special on the Brite Box (fog light) kit – buy the Brite Box and we will throw in a set of the fog light harnesses and o-rings.

Please clarify this. Does this mean if we buy the regular Bright Box that you will throw in the fog light kit? How long is this offer good for and where do we have to order to receive the deal?

Thanks,

Blake

Interesting find

The wifes PT Cruiser has always had awesome lighting when the high beams are on and I noticed the lows use 9006 while the highs are 9005 so I could see how this mod would make a huge improvement.

Just found this rebate on line. When you buy 2 SYLVANIA SILVERSTAR'S you can get 5 bucks back up to $10. Every little bit helps!!!

Yes, the mod was done in my personal truck with FLC Brite Box. Brite Box could easily handle a lot more wattage than this bomb.

A few questions:

First, how well does this work if you don't have the Brite Box, and just use the 9005's?

Second, is wattage the right way to be looking at this? The equation VA=W is expressed as A=W/V to calculate amps. The info on the Brite Box reads as follows:

[BLOCKQUOTE]http://www.thebritebox.com/3g. ram. fog. mod.html

B) Sylvania’s data shows the wattage of the 9005 as 65 watts as compared to the 9006 at 55 watts. The difference in wattage between the bulbs is small, so we feel that there should not be any detrimental heat or current draw problems caused by switching bulbs. [/BLOCKQUOTE]

If the lamps are 12V lamps, that means the draw on the circuit is just over 9 amps with the stock 9006 lamps, but almost 11 amps with the 9005 lamps. With the stock wires, would this be too much of a draw on the circuit?
