Anyone have a 3G truck with hideaway strobes installed? I would like to get some ideas of where you installed the front strobes.

I usually put the rears in the reverse lights and the fronts in the turn signal lights, but the 3G has a combined headlight / turn signal unit.

Thanks.

i will be doing it next week, so ill let you know... in the mean time i just got 4 whelen tir3 LEDs installed in the lower grille area in the plastic. They are bright as hell. . when some one can help me post pics they will be on.

I have done it on my 2nd gen, but it really the same 1st, 2nd, or 3rd generation. This headlamp assemblies have plenty of room, as do the large rear taillamps. Just remove each assembly from it's ,mount and find a place that works for the strobe lamp inside the lamp housing. You need to make sure the strobe will clear the headlight lamps. And also make sure the the back of the strobe will clear any sheet metal or structures. I installed one strobe each in the headlight housings, and one strobe each in the marker/turning signal lights on the front. For the rear, I installed one strobe each in the barke light compartment of the taillights.

I went with a 6 channel 90W system, it has about 8-10 different flash patterns, as well as a high and low switch. I do not really have a need for them, just thought it would be cool to have. I guess they may come in handy while assisting stranded Fords along the side of the highway??

Good luck, and just get the polarity's right when you make-up the plugs.

Send the pics to my e-mail and I'll help you get them posted. I'd really like to see those...

The rear is no problem--I drilled the hole in the bottom (flat) surface of the backup lights. The front, as you say, is the problem. Looking at the housing from the front when installed, all the surfaces are curved. It's even worse when you pull it out and look at it--the darn thing is double-walled.

My solution for the front was a set of low-profile grille lights from Gall's*. I used adhesive-backed magnetic tape stuck to the lights to hold them to the top plate of the intercooler. They're just visible from the front through the very top gap in the Laramie billet grille, but they're not visible from the sides. Actually, I should say they were visible--once I added the Buckstop bumper, its top bar exactly blocks them, and I haven't found a better solution yet.

*I tried to pull up the gall's website to get a picture and URL for the lights I used, but couldn't get the web page to load--sorry.
