Here is what you should expect to see come out when you do the GSK... Take my advice and go in from the side 22mm nut. I couldn't imagine it being much easier - JUST DON'T DROP ANYTHING!

Get a set of dial calipers - Digital ones are available for around $19 or less at Harbor Freight - Northern Tool, etc.

The first thing you remove is the split nut that needs to be removed and replaced at exactly the same depth (. 061 approx) from the top of the bolt that all of these springs slide over.

Once that is off you are home bound - just remove the parts and replace with the new. Put the nut back on to spec as mentioned and rotate the engine at the altenator to do the other side.

Yes - that easy.

USMCBay,

Rotate eng. and do other side? Would you expand on that a little bit.

I'll be doing this soon, and I'm looking for information.

TIA, Ray

I understand... I didn't know either until I went through the steps myself.

There is a a shaft that has two spring loaded sides. Imagine the shaft being the center pin for a clock and imagine two springs at 3 o'clock and at 9 o'clock. For mechanical purposes you will be looking at the clock from the side...

Where the cutaway is you will be looking beneath the large Nut labeled (7/8"?) on the side. Under that there will be the rotating springs - like standing to the side of a rotating dual prop on a aircraft... You just have to rotate the engine via the alternator nut until the spring comes around. It will be a retaining washer with a bolt end and nut on the end. Almost like a bullseye...
