I made the 3k spring kit today and have made a couple of adjustments but still don't have it right so I thought I would get some experienced advice before I go any father. I think I had the springs too loose the first time because idle speed was down to about 500 RPM's and I had no bottom end, it didn't' start making power till about 1800-1900 rpm's and it would go to 3000 pretty easy. I came back and tightened the springs down 2 clicks, that brought the idle up to almost 1000 rpm's which I was able to adjust down to 750, and made the power band start around 1500-1600 rpm's. I am not getting the smoke like I was with the stock springs. The governor lever is striking the plate mid-way up on the bevel. I was hoping to keep the same power band that I had, only have it extended to about 300 rpm's . Could it be that I need to tighten the pre-load a couple of turns? TST recommends a #4 plate with this spring kit, I may need one to get it right. Any advice will be appreciated

I am having a similar problem. I just installed the 3000 GKS, TST #4 plate and AFC spring kit. My power band doesn't start until about 1800 rpms and then I loose power after about 2700. Between the two it is like a bat out of hell. I just haven't had the time to play with all of the adjustments. I'd be interested in some guidance for when I do get the time.

Thanks,

Jeff

Quite often the lever has to be adjusted to get the power back. On my 4K set it almost wouldnt move it was so gutless after the install and after the lever adjustment (thanks Cord and Jim) it was a rocket, way better than ever before.

also make sure you plate isnt draggin on the AFC lever. make sure the plate is square and centered in its holes up and down. i let gravity hold mine and just squared it up (front to back), and i had a problem with it sticking on me until it had enough boost to overcome the resistance.

just a thought,

Todd

After a couple of PM's to fellow Rammer's and a phone call to Pier's I finally got everything set right after the 3k spring installation. The governor lever adj. was the problem with the low-end power, I now have the lever striking then upper point on the bevel on the #5 cam plate and I have a good even power band to 3000 rpms and probably higher if I would push it.
