I was going to install a set of 3K gov. springs in my 96. I have a #11 plate. The directions from TST recommend at least a #10. They say if not the truck may perform worse. Does anyone out there have this setup. I would really like to not have to buy another plate, unless I have to of course. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Lots of people really like the #10 plates and gov springs together. They really work good as a combo. I don't have any experience with a #11, nor do I know what shape its profile is, but it should be an improvement from what you have now. Not knowing the shape of its profile, the 11 plate may or may not need a gov lever adjustment. Its not hard to do, PDR Diesel Inc. The turbo diesel performance specialists! - Home has instructions on how to adj it if the lever gets hung up under the plate. As with any mods, or even a stock truck, gauges are a must.

Thanks for all the help guys. I think I'll try the springs with my #11 and then if I'm not satisfied I'll get the 10 plate. I had leaned toward gettin the 10 but then I had heard that I would probably have to go to the larger 16cm turbine housing because of exhaust gas temps. By the way I do have gauges installed-Boost,EGT,Trans temp. If the 10 is really that much better of a performing plate I will go to it. Also thanks for the links to piers on the adjustment.

I have run the #11 with 3k springs for a long time and had no problems at all. Really pulls better for sure. I now have gone to a larger turbo and a #10. Have not pulled with this combo yet, so don't know if the egt's are going to be a problem, but sure like the power over the #11.

I agree with Smitty. I installed my 3k kit long after the #11 and I did not have to do any adjustments. Is your timing advanced? I'd recommend that too.

I am going to have this set up put in my '97 for Hot Shots... Actually I am going to have the 3k GSK and the KDP tabbed for $1000 - from what I can remember w/o gauges which will be $250'ish this doesn't include the # 10 Plate.

Does this sound reasonable?

That would be 3k GSK - KDP arrest - and gauges for $1400 or so...

???

USMCBay - I wish you were in my area. I'd do that for a K ($) (or the 1400 with the gauges). Who ever quoted you those numbers is going to make good money!

No, it's not reasonable. Find someone on here that's done it and give them a couple $$ to be nice. It's no more than a few hours work, so what's your hourly shop rate? Don't support the shops that screw people.

Alot less than a $1000 here but I don't have a shop to pay for.

Great feedback - I won't mention any names because he IS KNOWN on the forum here.

I know I can do the Fuel Plate... I think I can do the Spring Kit... How entailed is the KDP? Do I only need to cut the fan shroud and then pull everything from there?

I just don't have much time - thats my issue. Though this is a secondary truck - so downtime isn't a concern.

Anyone in the area (Houston) up for some cash?

Thanks guys...

Oh crap - and he was going to adjust the timing - I forgot to throw that in...

does that make a big difference? That - I have never done. This is my fourth Cummins Dodge so I have wrenched quite a bit on 12v's but some things I have never touched. I've relocated fuel pumps on my 24v - adjusted the valves on my 12v - turned star wheels - moved fuel plates - blah blah blah... How tough is the timing adjustment?

Thanks again,

Even with timing adjustment it's a little high. Timing is like a $200 or so job I think?

The KDP isn't too much of a project, IMO the biggest PITA is replacing the front crank seal. You need a tool to remove the fan, the shroud is easy. You don't need to install a new timing cover gasket, clean both contact sides good and just use RTV (copper or other quality high temp). When you are in there check every bolt head you can reach because many of mine were pretty darned loose (the timing case bolts).

While doing the job with everything apart it's easier to do the timing especially since you can get in there to clean the pump shaft real good.

Vaughn... What would you pay for a KDP w/Timing job?

I would love to just have that done and get it back on the road ASAP.

I can do the 3k GSK and #10 myself.

Gauges - he offers the three basics for $249ish - Installed.

Thanks - it is appreciated.

Gauges $250 installed sounds like a deal (assuming just boost & pyro). KDP & timing I'd say under $500. For all the trucks I've timed I'd be pretty well off ;)
You know what you really need to get hooked up with is a bomb party. . . each year especially in February we have a big one up here in Washington where lots of KDPs and timing jobs get done for free. Not sure where Clear Lake TX is but chances are there's someone somewhere not far from you who'd be willing to lend a hand.

Vaughn - Thanks - Clear Lake is between Houston and Galveston. Bomb party huh - sounds pretty neat. I would be interested in knowing if there is one around here. I'll post a thread and try to find out...

 $500... Man - talk about getting it broke off in ya'. Dang... the crappy part is that he is really a good guy and I like hanging out at his shop a little when I go there.

Well heck - maybe for $1000 I should try and get the KDP - 3k GSK - Timing -Fuel Plate AND Gauges... That would equal value to me.

Is that more like it?
