Competition Ice Bath Intercooler?

What are you guys using for race slicks?

I can't get more than a 2-3 psi launch without annihlating the tires on my truck. Looking for a little more grip on the track.

Any suggestions?

I finished 5th , one place out of the race in HOTROD's drag week in my class which was the 12. 00 class. In the Eaton 12. 00 class you must average 12. 00 no faster. I had to stand on the brakes a lot to slow it down in the last day , we ran a total of 38 passes in the 11's that week, and 8 passes in the last 45 mins , trying to turn in a 11. 879 time slip to get a perfect average , just could not get it to slow down slower then a 11. 84 . if you don't run the NX it would run a 12. 21 . this truck logged a total of 3900 miles on this trip and averaged better then 20 MPG . its getting a set of 2. 47 gears and a 9 inch ford this week, and going to run the TEXAS mile next wee or so , with Ray Little of RAYMAC racing engines behind the wheel . hes hoping for 175 + mph and 200+ in his Trans AM which he is towing behind Project X

:) Sorry- the second post winded me with all the vast wealth of knowledgeable information that was just oozing out... . :-laf :-laf

Have you played around with air psi in ALL the tires?

What are we talking bout here with your problem? slicks or street tires?

If slicks what psi are you normally running? And what compound are they?

Street tires? again air psi? Healthy burnout?

I'm bringing my rag tires to the track this weekend. Don't mind burning them down to a big smoking glob of rubber if need be.

Those runs were with my new Michelins so I really wasn't doing hard burnouts.

I'm going to drop the psi on the rag tires and burn em out real good and see what I can do with them

Trap speeds were over 100 mph, but my best ET was only 14. 3.

Just the Smarty, TST and a built transmission.

gitchesum,

I have a couple(actually 5 in the garage) of BFG 315s mounted on Chrome Clad Steel wheels that you can try on the rear. They will smoke, but it does take some reasonable boost and torque to do it. And with the Smarty you can adjust the tire size while there on. They should give it that drag truck look.

BTW, I am serious if you want to try a couple.

Try getting a hold of 'Streetsmoker' on the DTR. He runs in the mid-upper 12s with his 2WD on street tires. Doing a massive burnout on street radials will most likely make the traction worse, not better. Most street radials will just get "greasy" after they melt from a big burnout unlike a drag slick/radial. Most of the time you just want to clean them off a little.

I've got a set of 28" slicks I can get my hands on with a 16" steel wheel. I might still try to see if I can get them to fit.

How much usually has to come off the calipers?

I agree with your statement- but not ALL tire compounds react that way... . Some do get greasy and some do hold the heat... .

How wide of a contact patch is on the tires?

My rag tires are the stock 265/70's Michelins.

Didn't even think about dropping pressure last time I ran, this weekend I'm going to try a few different things with pressure and burnouts.

Might even try the 16" slicks if I can get them to work.

Tried again tonight with the rags

Dropped the pressure to 40psi and was able to pull some 10psi launches.

Best time was 13. 62@101. 6

Dropped em again to 35 and I couldn't even keep them from spinning trying to boost up at the line. I guess 40psi was the number. Ran back to back 13. 6 runs, good enough for bracket racing next weekend.

I watched gitchesum run those 13. 6s with mostly stock truck, only tc/trans and Smarty. Very impressive. I on the other hand was still having trouble finding a consistent stack and fighting smoking the lights. Everything from 13. 6s to 12. 8s runs. Not good for bracket racing. I may just have to not use Smarty and run just TST/EZ for consistent 13. 5s for the bracket race. It is just hard not to be able to put a 12s dial in time on the window when you know it will do it.

BTW there was a mysterious little silver Dodge Ram 2500, RC w/short bed 2wd, that ran a 10. 991  and had to back off because of not having full suit.

John, Neal says they have two fans for next weekend and that they worked well at IRP for clearing the lights.

Darn that means I have to go back to way overfueling and a dial in time in the 12s. Hope I get it right on Saturday.
