Who cares!!

Ahh first post and this kind of comment... .

First of all... WELCOME! :)

There are some of us... whom like smoke.

There are some of us... . whom HATE smoke.

Those who hate smoke will probably take that comment and be offended and berate you for a few dozen posts.

If the comment was because that's some sweet power, and what should it matter..... Well there are plenty of guys around here that have put down well over that. Some are daily drivers.

Piers is one of the Cummins Masters. When people said that these trucks would never hit 500hp... . Piers was one of the first. (if not THE first)

If Piers wanted to make a TON of black smoke and hit that HP level, I'm sure he could. But as one of his posts said " Could only run the TST on level 3X3, anything beyound that produced more heat, smoke & less hp. "

At that, I would have to think Piers is going for CLEAN power. How clean is where Davids question comes in.

Again Welcome, and I hope that helps clear a few things up for ya!

Josh

Actually, once boost is up, it runs clean. I remember hitting 700 with my old 12 valve truck, smoke never did clear up, even at 65lbs boost & the pyro was out of sight.

Isn't it amaizing how far things have gone in a few short years?

Josh

It is. I remember what a job it was to get 700hp from a street able 12V, now this new generation of engines and fuel systems come along and away we go. Actually it's not fair, this engine doesn't even have head studs installed, let alone all the rest that it took to get those numbers out of a 12V engine.

... Seemed as long as we kept the rail above 16 thousand lbs, all was good, soon as you turned the TST up, rail psi dropped and power output went down.

That would make sense. Lower rail pressure means worse atomization. Run the rail pressure up to 30K PSI. :) I know: it's easier said than done. First trick is to build the pump to produce the pressure and volume. Then you have to build injectors to handle the added pressure. Then you have to program the ECM to account for the higher pressure/flow.

Get some GTL (synthetic) #2. I'll bet you'll see a big difference in power and emissions.

Piers,

How do you like the Pacific Performance(PPE) box? Is this the same box you tried because they stated a 4 mpg increase?

When you hit peak boost does it stay there or fall off?

700 was a pain, so was 800 as well as 848... ... not streetable!

If the elctronic trucks ever get to the point of being able to furnish enough fuel and control fuel and timing like the gassers do with the FAST system via laptop you will see some unbelieveable numbers.

Who ever thought in the early 90's that you could take a single turbo, fuel injected small block ford and make 1600 hp!

Piers's demo is showing the same thing as I see it. Small Twins, not a big cam, no big boost. . ect!

Ahh now that explains alot! :-laf :-laf

But I do still stand by what I said..... Some people will berate you because of a smoke comment... . others won't... . (I won't! :D )

Josh

Smoke was cool, now that i have grown up... na. been there done that. that is a main reaon why i got ride of my 12v smokey mf. Now on the other hand sledpulling gotta luv smoke or on the track but where i run in town and on interstates na. another reason is i dont want every blow joe driving around smoking everybody out. you ask why;

1. dont want further emissions testing retroactive to 89

2. i luv the diesel engines and want to clean up (pun intended) its reputation

3. blowing smoke on the wrong person in town and you will see holy heck and new ordinanaces springing up, tickets, etc.

4. if you have lots of smoke please stack your truck

all that said it is my opinion and it is not worth much but i know that is the way the diesel crowd it moving. now that its possible to make 550hp with a little smoke lets do it!

this is what impresses the masses:

8000lb truck, capable of pulling a bulldozer 80mph and still being able to live for 300K miles while making 550 hp. (you can still make lots of smoke with 3rd gens but you can save it for times when you want your buddies to go :) )

12v's rule but there will be alot more 3rd gens at 800hp than 12v's by a huge margin!

twins,sticks,methanol,boxes,cp3 pump,head studs, 750hp+ no probs

later

I won't argue Catcracker... . There is a time and place for smoke.

I'm not gonna give someone a hard time because of it..... cause I did it... and well kinda grew out of it. I still have my moments... . as I'm sure all of us do.

Josh

Hey Piers you crazy canadian I need you to get a hold of me I have a Megacab for a customer who needs twins and around 5-600 horses under the hood before the dealership delivers it so I would like to see what we can come up with...
