Okay,
I spoke with the release engineer for that program... remember, I'm not in the chrysler group so this is all new to me, all I did was give them my year truck and they made me a set, electric, and heated, but they were made in the lab here... . go figure. I had no idea they weren't production until just now.
Anyhow, these tow mirrors have been available since 2000 for our trucks. But only in the manual mode, non electric, non heat. Guess everyone already knows that.
The only electric/heated versions are for the New body style... guess everyone knows that too. So yes, if you want electric and heat you need to cross breed the base and from what the engineer told me it's quite a complicated deal if you want it done correctly.
You need the base from the non-electric tow mirrors and then you need to disassemble and cross breed the two of them. Unfortunatley you need to purchase the entire non-electric tow mirror assemblies and I've heard of them going for upwards of 1000 bucks at dealers around here.
As for selling partial assemblies or parts on some type of group purchase straight from Magna, that legally cannot happen.
These parts have Chrysler part numbers on them, and are owned by Chrysler, not Magna. We produce and supply them, but with the Chrysler part numbers they are Chryslers property and we have no rights to do anything with them, without the permission from Chrysler and that's a fat chance in red tape if you know what I mean.
Sooo... . sorry I couldn't be of any help.
