PPI A600 & TRI-WAY ? Good or Bad application

If I went with Vaughn's original idea and used a catch bottle, is there any specific kind that works better than another? One that wouldn't emit too much mist back out its top?

not sure about the bottle, but I do know that with the moroso kit you don't have to worry about positive pressures. It comes with a check valve so it can only pull a vacuum

never noticed any on the exhaust but did occasionally get some smoke on a WOT run at the track before I installed baffles on the valve cover. The key is to have a baffle under the breather so that oil does not get slung directly up into the breather off of the rocker arms and drawn out the exhaust.

This cover has a good for that, no way any splash would come out the breather. . just maybe some mist still suspended in the air.

I think the best bottle setup is one with a few 1/4" holes around the perimeter that are no lower than the end of the hose (incase the bottle fills up with water or oil). Then putting some steel wool wadded up in the bottom may help trap some vapors. Run the hose into the bottle, preferably one where the hose fits in the opening kinda snug. The bottle on the 24 valves is about the size of a medium pill bottle. Vaughn

Dang. . thats pretty small but if the new vc does a good enough job of oil separation I suppose it wouldn't need to be all that big.

Any updates Matt... ... ... .
Just bought some paint today for the cover, I wasn't sure if I should have it powder coated or paint it myself. I think I will paint it and see how well it looks and lasts.

I can always bead blast it later and then powder coat if its not durable enough. I found an ABS plastic elbow at the hardware store for the vent and plan to try the internal baffle first to see how wet the vent stays.

The oil return I will use my old fuel line I mentioned earlier and route it over to the OEM return.

I might have some pics next weekend if I don't get pulled off of it for other weekend duties.

hmm... i faxed in a quote for a few items from cummins mississauga and one was the valve cover... when i recieved the quote back, they had crossed out the PN 3965133 that we are trying to make work and wrote down the part number 3969481. [$185. 06 CDN :(:(:( = ±$150 USD] anyone know what that new part number looks like???. . and i really don't like that price [i was hoping for the $120cdn range]... looks like i need to find another location for that cover [maybe a freightliner or international dealer?]

other items i priced out

crank position sensor - pn 3408529 - $55. 86cdn

fuel filters - pn fs19579 - $18. 01cdn

oil filters - pn lf16035 - $17. 90cdn

What happened to your crank position sensor [not to hijack the thread or anything]...

nothing wrong with mine, but there was the one site [rokktech i believe] that was modifying them to increase the base timing by about 2°... feeling that i am somewhat mechanically inclined, i thought i might give it a try and see if i could do it, but again, the canadian price is killer [he has it listed as being like $25usd for the sensor & he mods them for $45'ish]

Interesting, looks like what we now have only made to cover better.

I bet its that tall cuz it hides the breather. Maybe someone could "tap" on it to see if it is plastic.

That 06 cover would look nice plated or painted.

If it is in fact taller than our blue ones, I don't think we could use it... The oil fill orifice wouldn't stick up high enough to be able to get a cap on it. :( It is more attractive than the blue one though...

Looking over my truck, I'd bet Matt's right... it's just a larger version of the one up to 2005. And plastic. Oh well. :(

Matt, any progress on the valve cover work?

Its setting in the corner waiting on a paint job and each weekend "like this one" there is always something else to do! :{

Its now going on the 05. :D

Well now I am bummed! I didn't want to pull this thing on and off so spent some time and painted it first, made my 90 fitting on the back for the breather and figured out the oil return only to find it won't fit!!

There is not enough room in the back between the firewall and cylinder head. My 90 fitting only sticks out 1 and 1/8"

I had measured clearance in the back on my 03 and it looked like it was a go, maybe the insulation if thicker on the 05??

Wow. . this woulda looked sweet, I didn't have my camera at work so couldn't take a pic and had to reassemble to get home. I will take a pic with it off.

Back to square one I guess. Its so tight in the back that all you could do is cap off that end. If I crammed it in there the 90 would chaff the firewall insulation all to heck with engine movement.
