With kids you aren’t gaining as much back seat room on a 3rd gen as you might think. The 4th gen is 9” longer and that’s nearly all back seat. The 3rd Gen is roughly 6” longer than a 2nd Gen, but I don’t know how it plays out in terms of cab room.

Kids and back seat room was the main reason I started looking at a 4th gen.

All that being said I really liked my 3rd Gen, it was a great truck.

Here are a few interior pics of my 03. Not the best pictures but an idea none the less. Not the cleanest interior either with all my work gear and spare filters /parts and tools.

@Three Bravo, Glad to see you were able to get you name changed! Very fitting name tag now! :D I've been thankful for the help TDR has provided me since acquiring my truck. Hope you'll find what your looking for/need or just want!

I was in a similar situation with my 2nd Gen Club Cab, two growing boys and not much back seat room. About 10 years ago I bought an 06 Mega Cab and I can tell you there is plenty of room. The truck quickly became the go to road trip vehicle because of it. Recently my wife and I took my son and 4 of his 15 year old friends on a camping trip 3 hours away. That's 7 people and all of their camping crap but there was just enough room. When the kids were smaller I would lay the back seat flat and they could sleep side by side for longer trips. My 06 has absolutely fit the bill for a family truck. I do agree with other posters though that finding a clean low mileage 3rd gen is likely getting a little difficult and you could probably get a 4th gen for the price of a clean 5.9 Mega. I only have 125k on mine so I'll be hanging on to it until the youngest gets through college.

Only problem with the Mega is that you cannot get an 8' bed so that is why IMHO the 4th gens are the ticket since the back seat room is soo much more than the 3rd gens... I do like the Mega but not enough to deal with the short bed and slider hitches or having to be eagle eye on my gooseneck trailers.
