Thanks, TDR Staff

ats co-pilot. good or bad?

Find one?

You Vp44 guys think you have it bad. How about us 12 valve guys that always get asked:

"Hey what kind of chip do you have in it ?"

I always answer "Pringles"

Well it looks like schedules didn't work out and I won't be able to get even a download of my ECU for review later.

Sorry folks, I tried and it was a neat idea. I'll try next time I'm out this way.

What DDunk is saying is that since the Smarty came out for the CRD's there havent been any updates for the VP trucks. #@$%! Just to clear things up

Gentlemen, as I see it, advertized claims of "undetectable trace" of performance enhancing equipment are creating distrust of the consumer when legitimate problems are brought in. Chrysler might be more willing to work with dealers on problem issues if they knew that those of us who are willing to "Pay to Play" were honest about it when we came in to have work done. In my area, none of the dealers are even willing to look at my "modified" truck (the '99), and so far 3 local dealers are refusing to work on my "stock" truck (the '06). Granted, some of the problem with the lack of support for the new truck is the number of problems that it has had (13 trips in for repair so far), and the fact that I contacted the Chrysler local rep to try to resolve one of the issues.

While having a conversation with one of the service advisors at one of the dealers, he let slip that Chrysler had pulled their 5-star rating and refused to pay them for any more warranty transmission work due to several repairs being made where the individual had some "questionable" modifications, but they had done the repairs under warranty anyway.

In my case on my '06, I just paid a dealer to download a TSB reflash to the chassis computer in order to repair a problem that mysteriously appeared when the previous dealer downloaded an updated flash earlier. Since the truck was right over the 36K limit, the previous dealer refused to put the TSB on without charging me. They said they wouldn't be paid by Chrysler if they did the work under warranty, and suggested that I contact Chrysler directly. I just took it to another dealer and paid them instead - wasn't worth the hassle.

I realize this is getting away from the subject of the post, but I wish that those who are trying to "Pull one over on the enemy" would re-think the consequences of their actions, and the price that all of us may pay in the end.

TDR motto - You are your own warranty station!! if you PLAY.

I think with all the KDP/weak auto trans/lift pumps/VP44s/CR injectors/ect. and now DPF issues the end user is stuck with we should have an amazing warranty to make up for the "good enough" construction of these trucks. How about all the 2nd gen dashboards that have cratered? which box caused that? Sorry, not under warranty. So if you can get one by the stealership with an "undetectable" go for it.

For the price these trucks sell for and the loss of jobs to Mexico, they should figure in a new fuel pump or transmission before 100k miles as an included cost of doing business. It's all a scam anyway. Buy a rig for 50 grand and it devalues by 5 or 6 grand when you drive it off the lot. If an industrial diesel built to take 500 plus horses like on a 03-07 can't take a little rompin and last a measly 100k miles, or 136k, screw em. They screwed us twice first. Once with outsourcing factories and second with a machine that is hopelessly overpriced tha day it is sold. They can can barely keep the 6. 7's running!

Thanks for the rant Jeff, I think you missed the point. The makers of the Smarty have made a claim, undetectable, and some wanted to test that claim. It has nothing to do with getting away with something or not paying-to-play.
