Does anyone out there in TDR land have an early first gen. auto with a Gear-Vendors. My father-in-law has an early 91 4x4 with the 727 auto. and is considering this to drop his highway cruising RPM. I agree that this will help with an empty truck. My concern is when pulling his 5er, how much torque convertor slip and heat will occur as the 727 does not have a lock-up torque? Is there any gain when trailering? Any ideas? Thanks, John.

If I were spending the money, upgrade the trans to a 47RH and forget the add-ons. They seem to work fine for light duty but do not handle weight and/or HP very well. Either way you will have to do some mods so my preference would be do something I could get fixed in Valentine Nebraska if needed. A well built 47RH with OD and lockup TQ would be a much better choice for towing and reliability. By adding a secondary cooler and keeping the fluid changed regularly you should have a very tough unit.

I have the 727 trans with a DTT 91 % convertor, with a gear vendor and 3. 07 gears and love the truck, I have 37k miles on the set up woth a rebuilt 727 (cost to rebuild trans $250) I would never go any other way.

I travel down the freeway empty at 1900 rpm at 70 mph, and never had any problems with the setup for pulling.

Mind you the truck has 237k on it and I may have to finally rebuild the rear end as I think there is too much play in the gear lash.

Email me if you want anything else

We also have a Dodge crew cab built the same way and my friend loves it as well
